Alex: I tried to decipher your answer because it wasn't really clear. Correct me if I'm wrong, basically, the person who should make the decision is the one who believes there's hope left, correct? If so, then what if it is your wife? If your parents don't believe that there is any hope left for any worthwhile recovery, then they don't have a say in the situation, correct? Same thing if it were the other way around? If your wife felt, based on your doctor's and other expert's advice, that there is no hope, but your parent do, then she should be left out of the decision because whoever has the most hope gets to make the decision? Just for the record, I'm not questioning where the hope comes from (it could be Joseph Smith's dancing salamader for all I care). What I'm trying to find out is if you'd be okay that your wife would be left out of the decision because she wouldn't have as much hope left as your parents.

Heith: I normally make it a point not to respond to the "anonymous" posts coming from fictional characters, whether I agree or disagree with them, or however entertaining they can be. If they're not strong enough to post under their own name, they're not worth acknowledging, no matter how insulting to me or my ideas they may be. Just some friendly advice.

Mike Paterson:Thanks amigo! Hey, what class did you graduate with?

Below are a few links to Sony's copy protection software they force on your system when you insert one of their recent music CDs.

Subject: Beware of Sony Music CDs
Follow-up #2: http://www.sysinternals.com/blog/2005/11/m...ous-decloaking.html

Follow-up (don't trust the 'uninstaller' either!):
http://www.freedom-to-tinker.com/?p=921

http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/79450/sony-drm...o-rootkit-code.html

DRM software included on some Sony CDs includes a monitoring utility that is difficult to discover, almost impossible to remove and offers an easy hiding place for malicious code.

Mark Russinovich, writing in the Sysinternals blog, details how he uncovered rootkit code on his computer that originated from a Sony music CD he owned.

A rootkit installs itself in Windows systems in such a way that it tells the operating system to quite literally blindly accept its activities. As such, any files contained within the rootkit remain invisible from within Windows. Rootkits are increasingly commonly used by virus writers to hide the activities of their code and now, it seems, also major music publishers.

Besides, if Christians (or Muslims or Jews) impose inflexible standards of divinity, it will only generate more hostility than change.

Alex, it's pretty arrogant and chauvenistic to say that God is a he. How do you know God is a he? Geeezus, Alex--the Bible was written by men. It was also manipulated and edited by those who were scared to death of anything having to do with the Goddess aspect of women. The church was created to set up a hierarchy of power--with men at the top and women at the bottom. It became a means of controlling the masses and also a business. Spirituality and religion are not the same thing.
By the way, instead of your ridiculous hee-heeing and ho-hoing--maybe you could say something remotely intelligent. I have no idea wht you're talking about, and why do you say I should go to the class of 1980 chat?
If we should attack anyone, it's AlQuaeda--not Saudi Arabia, Not Iraq. Al Quaida does not represent the Midddle East, and the Middle East does not represent Al Quaeda. Too many people want legitimize zenophobia, war and violence by wrongly associating things that are not not necessarily associated. As far as where I was during 9/11, same as everyone else--minding my own business. Are you suggesting that I could have done anything about it??? It's okay if you want to live in fear and be a bigoted, paranoid freak. But don't go hating people who live on the other side of the world just because they live differently.

Homer: Please teach this self-righteous, religious clown to think for himself. He needs help. Thanks.

I'm sure there are lots of other better things to discuss--this gets a little heavy. I enjoy this forum most of the time and don't participate much since I don't know most of you guys. However, when a verbal attack comes my way, and Alex comes in all full of himself, I just can't resist.

He? God is a He? A real PERSON? Why not a She? or simply an IT? Isn't ascribing antropomorphical properties to a divine entity the exact opposite of the very divinity IT is supposed to purport and, in many ways, be beyond our describable knowledge?

Dwight, no my brothah! Sheehan said clearly that the United States of America is not worth dying for! That is why I say that she dishonors her son who did just that... that's a tragedy!

John B., excellent question! That should be a question for an ethics exam! Who would have the final say on whether to pull the plug on me if all the people involved really do love me but they genuinely disagree?... Well, I believe that as long as there is hope, they should go with the hope, they should go with hope's opinion. And there is an advantage that my family has that many families have but that many others do not. I know that you do not agree and think its all pie in the sky, never the less, regardless, the Lord is not just a figment of our imagination as you suppose, He is a real person, and He is a person that all of my family members know and trust in a personal way. Because of this, if my life should take a turn like that, I am 100% certain that He would give them peace about the right decision, the peace that surpasses all understanding. As long as one of them had no peace from God about it, they should keep the plug plugged. In time, because He is a real person, He would give them all peace as to what to decide... of course, my wife says it depends on how much I'm insured for! (just kidding!)

Teddy, we couldn't expect Homer to give a balanced view, he is a Hollywood type!

Homer Simpson,... well... you ARE Homer Simpson!

Interesting that you should make such an asshole comment, Alex--you don't even know me, so how would you know what fits me well?. It's too bad you, like many neo-cons and neo-con supporters, can't seem to (or choose not to) see beyond the liberal/conservative, republican/democrat plane. I have news for you--you're seriously deluded into the idea that you're doing anything positive for your country. You are only making it easier for the greedy corporate monsters to take over the rest of the world, undermining cultural diversity, homogenizing the planet, and wiping out everyone's natural resources that, incidentally, belong to our children and their children. Your gung-ho military mentality is a perfect example of how a huge part of the human race has simply failed to evolve. Killing others, under any circumstances other than direct threat to your life, is something we should have evolved out of a long time ago. The more "BushCo/America" imposes its will on other countries, the more it will alienate us from the rest of the world and fuel the anger and resentment. We don't have the right to spread what we call democracy to the world. We don't have the obligation or the right to make sure the world is safe for Halliburton, WalMart, and Pfizer (this is America's style of doing terrorism). The attitude that "we are better than them" is not patriotism--it's just arrogance. All countries and cultures are great. Live and let live. There will always be terrorism as long as there is oppression and poverty. America started this whole thing with Columbus, and it hasn't stopped since. Take a good look at why they hate us. America pushes others around--it's a fact! You come across as a xenophobic moron trying to make this a Christian vs. Muslim issue. That's the problem with you religious zealots--you think your God is better than theirs. Many have been killed in the name of Christianity. I seriously doubt that Jesus would have wanted it that way. I didn't grow up with any religious teaching, but I do know that Jesus tried to teach forgiveness non-violence.
Open your eyes. Have you considered learning to think for yourself??? So, you're a chaplain--doesn't that mean your Purpose is spiritual? Or is it to kick little-brown-muslim-people's asses? Just curious. Another piece of news. We're not being attacked. I would say that if we were in fact being attacked, we should fight back. But we're not. Everyone is a potential target of the disease of terrorism. War has never cured it and most likely never will. Oh yeah, and Iraq has never attacked us, so what the f--k are we doing attacking them?. I have no problem supporting troops for making such an incredible sacrifice--yes,I do acknowledge that. But someone has to help them see past the illusion crap. These people mean well, no doubt, but are being fooled into thinking they are doing something to protect Freedom.
There's my "liberal" two cents from someone who just popped up out of nowhere.

First let me make it clear that I do not support my dead brothers belief that you should ask what you can do for your country. You should always ask what your country should to for you while we protect terrorists. Second, you should allow as many foreign people into this country that disagree with us and don't want to be us so that they can vote for us. Third, no matter what you say as long as your on our side, you can not be considered a liar. That is common sense.

B. Let me finish Homers comments by giving you the liberal commandments. I can't believe he only gave you the one side/

1. Thou shalt lie too, but then take it back when the press calls Bush a liar, then your good. Oh, make sure you make a huge deal out of it and they will think you were never there.
2. Thou shalt keep the poor exactly where we've told you to keep them all this time, subjugated with no hope. Hey, at least they'll have two squares and a cadillac. 3 squares are for those loser military fucks who don't have a clue.
3. Thou shalt not kill unless its those who try to take your stuff, but then you'll have to get permission before acting. What, you think you can act on your own stupid? This terrorist crap is all a Bush invention.
4. Dont hate one another, only republicans.
5. Don't torture, let them have their way. Oh yea there are no terrorists, delete number 5.
6. Uh, embrace your enemy's god.
7. Thou shalt not have money power or any fuel to take care of your family, it is evil and only for republicans. Never mind that I have stock in it, that is non of your business.
8. Keep everything in the open just like our hero Bill Clinton.
9. Whatever you do, don't tell anyone what you believe. You have no right. oh, you do but don't make it christian because that is what republicans are.
10. Anyone who doesn't follow the above commandments is destined to be a good person, we do not need that, its only for the repulicans.

Root boy: Thou shalt sport a permanent retarded state. Fits you well.

"I saw a video of her talking to some middle school kids telling them that America is not worth fighting and dying for."

Was she saying that the IRAQ WAR is not worth fighting and dying for or any war? Just curious because there are certainly many cases that are justified for war.

Alex: Just out of curiosity, what if there is a dissenting opinion amongst your family members on what decision should be made. For example, your spouse says you should be kept alive, and your parents say no. Or visa versa? Who should ultimately have the final say? Do you truly think they would come to a consensus?

They all love you equally, and they all want to take part in the decision, but they disagree on the decision (can't tell you exactly why, but this is hypothetical, and therefore, so is the scenario). Add to that, you are visibly suffering, or in a deteriorating coma. Not on life support, but being force-fed either orally or intraveneously (sp?) in order to keep nutrients in your system to keep the autonomic system functioning. Some doctors, hired by your parents, agree that you will continue to deteriorate. Doctors, under your immediate care, assure your wife that there is always hope and that there have been cases where people have come out of a coma, and after certain physical therapy, they can lead an "aware" life. (Reverse the roles as well.) Who should make the decision? Oh, and you forgot to write down your wishes, though you've discussed them with your wife and children.

Mike P. I'm not sure about the stamina! This morning at 0530 I went to do PT with my youngest soldiers (just out of boot camp and high school doing their AIT Advanced Individual Training, truly still kids) and we ran and sprinted so much that when I went home a was so nauseus I had to lay down on the carpet for a few minutes!

One of the exercises the young soldiers were doing was the fireman carry, I, being the 42 year old chaplain, just kind of walked on the side while these 18 year olds fireman carried each other running about a football field's distance. All of a sudden, one of my soldiers ran up to me and just picked me up off the ground and fireman carried me the rest of the way! And that after having done so with another soldier, and I weigh about 200 Lbs. (mostly twisted steel, but, you know, some flubber on the sides)! So funny... youth! It's good, though, that's how soldiers show their affection.

Dwight, if Cindy Sheehan (thanks for reminding me of her name) was just protesting the war, I would agree with you, I believe she has the right to do so and in fact, that is why ultimately we are going to war, because if we didn't go to war there and they somehow defeated us here, she would loose the right to protest. Anyway, if she was just protesting, thats ok. But Cindy Sheehan goes way beyond protesting! I saw a video of her talking to some middle school kids telling them that America is not worth fighting and dying for. That made me sick! You know,to work against the recruitment of troops in time of war is a crime called subversion, to aid and abet the enemy is called treason, Cindy Sheehan, Michael Moore, that long haired professor are all guilty of both, and they should be tried and convicted of treason and subversion.

John, finally, one thing we agree on! Can that be possible! I agree with you that these things should be put in writing. I also agree in that a vegetative life, one that is kept artificially by way of a respirator or something of that sort, should not be kept like that. Terri Schiavo, however, was breathing on her own, her heart was beating on its own, if she had been hooked to a machine to keep her lungs and heart artificially pumping, I would be all for disconnecting those machines and letting her die peacefully. But all she required was food and water, she was brutally and purposefully murdered by starvation and thirst, a death so cruel not even animals are allowed to die like that in this country!

There is a reason for why I greatly doubt the published autopsy reports, I already mentioned the main reason, the love and lack thereof, but another reason is because her husband staunchily opposed her mom and dad and brother getting an independent doctor perform an autopsy as well for a second opinion. Why did he oppose that? She was already dead! I think that he was afraid of another autopsy report finding evidence that not only would support what those that loved her said all the way, but that he had put her in that state to begin with. Man, that guy's handling of all this is so murky I don't trust anything he says, and those that were with him had such an agenda, that I believe their reports were tainted... they could've cleared everything out for many people if he would have just allowed a second autopsy for a second opinion! His virulent opposition to her treatment and an independent autopsy and the agenda of those on his side cast deep shadows on what was publicized.

I, for my part, would never leave my mom and brother and sisters out of a decision to end it all for me simply because I know they love me unconditionally, and after seeing they way that Schiavo guy so callously treated Terri's family, there is no way I would ever leave that possibility, of them being so cruelly mishandled, open! That's because I love them and I know they love me. I would pray that my children would never leave me out of a desicion like that, because they know and I know I truly love them and I would only want what is best for them. Of course, Sandra wouldn't put my family through what Shciavo put his wife's family through to begin with, but I would want my family to take part in any desicion, they are my flesh and blood.

Alex: I agree, there is no way of knowing what was discussed between Terri and her husband, and there's no facts there I could substanciate. But this is a 'rights' issue that I support. If (Goddess forbid) I or my spouce is ever in a proven vegetative state, I would want our wishes carried out over those of my parents, sibblings or any religious sect. I know she would be choosing the right think, regardless of her motivations. OJO: The only true way to know the intent in a situation like that is to have it clearly documented way before such an event occurs (which both my wife and I already have). I recommend that to everyone, especially you Alex, if you ever have to see combat. Don't let others decide for you.

The facts I was alluding to was the autopsy report which you stated, "I don't believe the published reports of the autopsy," and instead believe a video of a woman in a vegetative state, having a involuntary physical reaction to any stimulus, as more factual to her ability to being cured. Sorry, that's your belief system taking over and overpowering logic and scientific data. But, we've beaten this subject to death.

Domimic: Yes, sadly so, there is way to win. But isn't this a great country where we can actually debate these issues?

Dwight: <chuckling> Carpet Shampooing??? <chuckle>

Mike P: I am flattered that you actually remember me and that I left any impression on you. I, on the other hand, have no recollection of you, either negative or positive. Hopefully, you'll have something intellectual to add on this board other than your sophmoric quips.

Ramon: Tomato Olive??? That's a new one for me. Regarding the origins of coffee...goes way back to Arab traders, which I believe to come from the "qahwah" seed and largest producer was in Yemen. This goes back at least 1000 years ago. That's as far as my knowledge goes on the subject. I'm going to have to look it up tonight.

Mike: The cure for a hangover is simple. Vodka Bloody Mary with the tomato/clam style juice, mucho limon, salt, 6 drops of Magie juice, 3-4 green olives and tabasco to taste. Then take a slice of salami with a slice of wisconsin cheese, fold it in 4 and sumerge it into the boody mary, wait 5 minutes (you might want to drink a beer while you are waiting) and then slowly drink away while listening to some Pink Floyd or New Orleans DixieJazz.
You have no idea how good the salami/cheese will taste along with the olives.
As far as my body, my wife says she is going to donate it to the local trash pick-up.

Ramon: I can't come up with a T veggie for Martini. All I know is they usually you want to use a Picholine olive because of the small size and flavour. Some other like it with a twist of lemon but I don't. I also know that if you use a cocktail onion it's not a martini anymore but it would be called a Gibson.
So, what's the answer?????

Dwight: Admire your insight and sarcasm. Your history lecture is correct and insightful. Enjoy reading you.

Dominc: I can't believe you are still partying. Your body shouuld be donated to medicine. I can be useful in curing at least the hang over.

John B.: Your are still the same moronic child I meet in highschool. A Taliban of your politics and still believe God doesn't deserve you. Stick to cooking and drinking comments.

Ramon R. : I am researching to find out what goes in the original martini. But no dice on the "T " veggie.

Jennifer WS: Still love them freckles.

Alex, everything you posted below refers to attacks on the US or US embassies by radical Islamic terrorists. Who here doesn't agree they need to get their ass kicked? Don't lump me into those you call 'liberals' that want to see that happen cause I'm not one of them. But, that certainly was NOT the reason Bush used for going to war with Iraq. I'm with you completely brother on exterminating those who want to take our freedom away! Liberals can have that viewpoint too, it's not just Republican or conservative intellectual property amigo.

Liberals aren't the only ones questioning this war and I don't think when we do question the Iraq War, our government, or how we're fighting the war the purpose is to demoralize our troops. Don't you think the troops want to get home as soon as possible? My buddy who is a Vietnam Vet and now an Iraq War Vet certainly did. I'm not a soldier, but I know a few I've talked with who share the same feelings as I do about the Iraq War. I don't think we're being effective in Iraq, a viewpoint the majority of our country shares, but I certainly would like that to change for the better. We need to not botch this one as we did in Vietnam. I'm not saying we shouldn't fight them on their turf as that is certainly the ideal situation, but we need new tactics and a better plan.

I disagree Alex with your comment about Cindy Sheehan. She most certainly does not dishonor her son or any other soldier who fought and died in Iraq by protesting the war or by excersizing her first amendment rights to protest in front of W's ranch.

Also, I'm having a hard time with your line of reasoning where you said liberals think redistributing wealth will win the war on terror. Dude, pasen las chelas! :)

It's a FACT that we can all agree on that one issue. The fact is gay marriage is going to happen no matter what facts are factored into the situation.
As a matter of fact, I was speaking to a gay couple the other day who claim gayness is genetic. If this is true, this is great news for the right wing religious groups. "What you talking about Mr. Fact?" asked my priest when I told him about this. It's simple Mr. Priest, if gays are allowed to marry legally it would allow closet gays to come out and stop marrying straight people. This is were salvation begins for the right wing. Gays would marry each other and thus eliminating future "genetically gay generations" as they wouldn't be able to pro-create. After a few generations, gays would genetically disappear. The priest smiled and asked "Is that a fact?"

John, the fact is... you are stating as fact something that you don't have a way of knowing it is fact, namely, that I in fact would not be willing to listen to or believe facts about Terri Schiavo. In fact,I looked at the facts closely and saw that there were two sets of opposing claims of fact, one Terri's husband, the other her mom and dad and brother. I actually weighed the facts, and it was plain to see that those who loved Terri had facts of truth whereas the one who loved another one while still married to Terri had facts of falsehood. I chose to believe the facts of those who loved her, not only because it was clear in the videos they showed many, many times, but because they loved her, as opposed to the facts of the one who not only in an exceptionally tenacious way hardened himself for years against getting that poor girl therapy, but he so ruthlessly and cruelly mistreated those people in their grief. Their love and concern, and the videos, made their facts more factual, his exceptional cruelty, and the videos, made his facts in fact a lie, a lie which those with an agenda of death are more than happy to promote and perpetuate...

But, you made a statement of fact about what I believe regarding Terri's facts without actually knowing the facts about how I had actually examined all facts, the facts of those who loved her and the facts of him who was so blatantly cruel to her and her family, to come to a decision, which tells me that you believe what you want to believe regardless of what the facts are, which means that your are among those who can not differentiate beliefs from facts... and then you call those who are closer to God than you fanatics! (But I gotta watch "The Hulk" with my kids! Pass the popcorn!)

Alex, once again, thanks for your eloquent response <chuckle>. Of course you will not believe facts about Terri Schiavo nor care to hear them. Most Republicans and Conservatives aren't able to deal in truths which is why it appeals so much to the religious fanatics and those who can't differentiate beliefs from the truth.

We will dispense from the abortion argument as we'll never see eye to eye here. I am "fully" informed about D&E procedures (a.k.a. partial birth abortion). It may not fit into your belief or the way you choose to view how the procedure is carried out, but then again, this is America and so far the neo-cons haven't taken your right to choose to view things your way, so go ahead and continue believing what you believe. I choose facts.

John, this is what I heard you say "haba haba haba!" Gotcha!

I remember watching Terri Schiavo responding and smiling at her family, I don't believe she told that to her husband, and I don't believe the published reports of the autopsy, I believe he put her in that state and he, and those who helped him, murdered her and like a merciless rock stood in the way of her recovery so that he would not get busted. She could have recovered to a great extent if her so called husband had not so fiercly opposed it. No, I think she was mercilessly starved to death to cover up his crime and promote the agenda and ideology of death many liberals have.

I think you are not fully informed about partial birth abortion, but I'm not going to get into detail here because our friends here, last time I did a few years ago, jumped on me like I was the one killing the baby instead of jumping on the ones who actually kill the babies. The great majority of partial birth abortions are performed to alleviate the inconvenience a baby brings to some people, perfectly healthy babies who are in the process of being born, thus the name partial birth abortion, babies like yours and mine, so precious that I can not even begin to comprehend how anyone could ever do such a horrifying thing! Its not a woman's choice, it was her choice to have fun making the baby, in most cases, now its her and his responsibility to care for the baby, not to kill him/her. But, one day the consequence of abortion will be that when we get really old there will not be enough young people to pay for our Medicare, and this country will once again turn to her conservative Christian roots, because while many liberals are in the habit of killing their young, conservatives are in the habit of keeping them alive and having more, so that one day the children of conservatives who were brought up with that world view will far outnumber the children of liberals, and this will be reflected at the ballot booths, and our country will be brought back to what our Founding Fathers intended.

Alex: Now, let's not go off and claim things out of context here. First off, the Schiavo case was about personal rights. Her spouse, whether you belive it or not, had directions from Terri that she did not want to be kept alive in a vegetative state. It was proven (okay, after autopsy), that Terri Schiavo suffered severe, irreversible brain damage that left that organ discolored and scarred, shriveled to half its normal size. This was a "right-to-die" issue. If you take away that right of an individual, then we all have it taken away.

Second, I do not know of any liberal agenda that admonishes the "killing" of newborn babies. Can you be more specific? This does seem out of context. I am aware of cases where a child comes out of the womb so deformed that the parents, after doctor recommendations, choose to remove life support. If that is what you're referring to, then the context does not apply to just liberals but to humans in general.

Lastly, the partial birth abortions that you are referring to, though graphic, is not a common occurance and is not performed as you describe. They are very rarely performed in late pregnancy. The most common justifications at that time are:
The fetus is dead.
The fetus is alive, but continued pregnancy would place the woman's life in severe danger.
The fetus is alive, but continued pregnancy would grievously damage the woman's health and/or disable her.
The fetus is so malformed that it can never gain consciousness and will die shortly after birth. Many which fall into this category have developed a very severe form of hydrocephalus.

Are there botched partial birth abortions, yes, sadly so. And once again, this is a woman's choice, which liberals do protect. Freedom of choice, which makes us inanely human, is a freedom liberals defend mercilessly.

John, I appreciate your response. Yeah, liberals value all breathing life... except that poor girl Terry Schiavo. And not all liberals value all breathing life, some believe that parents have the "right" to kill their newborn babies up to 4 days after birth, and many more believe that as long as you turn the baby around and pull him/her out of the womb by the feet so as to prevent him/her from taking the first breath of air, its ok to mercilessly kill them through that partial birth abortion... and of course, babies in the womb are breathing, and you and I are just overgrown embryos, as we are fully grown children and babies.

No, Dwight, I don't tell that to my soldiers as an Army Chaplain, but you can not tell them they are killing innocent people and dying for a man's ego and at the same time go waive an American flag and welcome them like heroes, you greatly demoralize them, and if they hear you say that that is what they are doing, your flag waiving is empty to them. Our soldiers believe they are fighting for a just cause, they believe they are directly responisible for stopping the hand that is about to cut a political dissenter's tongue off, they believe they are directly responsible for allowing little girls to go to school and women to reach their full potential, they believe and understand, unlike you, that if we don't fight them there we are going to fight them here, that this enemy is driven by an ideology that hates us simply because we are Americans and non Islamic and that they will not stop until they anhilite us or we completely defeat them. Our young soldiers today joined not because they can get benefits for college, but because they love America and they felt their hearts grieve when 3000 innocent, unarmed Americans were murdered without a cause in one day on 9/11 and America the beautiful was disrespected and raped. Unlike you, they understand that if we pull our troops out now, those poor people in Afghanistan and Iraq will again fall into the hands of merciless tyrants, we will become open season for terrorists, we will fight them here and their comrades in arms will have sacrificed their lives in vain... How is it that you can not see that? It is baffling!

No, we did not start this war, they, those who hold a certain ideology without borders, they declared war on us in 1979 when they took our Marines hostage in Iran, they started the war when they killed 300 of our young Marines in Lebanon in 1983, they started the war when they bombed the world trade center in New York in 1993, they started the war when they attacked the USS Cole in 2000, when they knocked down the towers on 9/11, they had done started the war a long time ago, and if you think that those people are actually going to sit down with you and sing cumbaya if we just be nice to them, as the song says, you got another thing coming! But that is why the liberal ideology is so absoutely dangerous to our national security! Because liberals actually think that if we just be nice and redistribute American wealth, our enemies will sit down with us and give us a big, fuzzy hug! Well, you are wrong, they will not stop until all Americans embrace their brand of religion or all Americans, liberal and conservative alike, are dead. Our soldiers understand that, they love our country and they, unlike that lady who is dishonoring her dead military son, they believe this country is worth fighting and dying for.

Like I said, pasen las chelas!

John, for a 6 year old, make up like a princess! Esta "a la vibora de la mar", "amo ato" "a la rueda de san miguel". Unfortunately, our kids don't play much of these at parties anymore. You could have an arts and crafts Mexican activity ,though. Do you remember serpentinas? if you roll them tight together, you get a big colorfull disk, then you push it in in the middle and you can make sombreros or little pots. After you put white glue on them, let it dry so it becomes hard and varnished. If you can't get serpentinas, each kid could paper mache their own pinata.

Couldn't have said it better myself John.

The only thing I would add Alex is it is hard for me to understand why any American would, as you put it in so many words, salivate in gleeful celebration over 2000 dead American soldiers. Is this something you tell your troops as an Army Chaplain? I support our troops as I'm sure John does and have attended several vigials, events, and rallies in the past couple of years. My best bud at work was in Iraq for a year and I was there with 30 other people giving him a hero's welcome when he stepped back on American soil. His son was recently deployed there after basic training in the Army.

My problem is that I don't support a pompis, selfish and out of touch administration. Why are we at war in Iraq? If you ask me, it's certainly not because of 9/11, WMD, atrocities to mankind, oil, or national security. To me it's clear that there is another reason which I fear is far worse. I think it can be summed up in the words of my namesake:

"In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the militaryindustrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist."

On a complete other note...

My daughter is celebrating her sixth birthday this coming month. She wanted to have a "Fiesta" motif, which we're agreeing would be fun. But now comes the problem. I don't recall any specific hispanic based party games outside of playing soccer (though not specifically hispanic) and a piñata. We are doing the "pin the tail on the burro" but that didn't seem to me to be really hispanic but an Americanized version of some sort of other game. Any suggestions?

Dwight: Yes, I've been to his site. Pretty hillarious stuff.

Alex: Quite the contrary. Unlike the Republicans, and the neo-Conservatives who would love and celebrate the deaths of our spouces, siblings, offspring, and grandchildren to their deaths on false pretenses and ideologies, liberals do not want to accept the death of any American soldier. So the fact that we publicize the increased death of our loyal troops is not in celebration, but quite the opposite, in opposition of a government and a political stance that is more interested in supporting the intact existance of a non-viable embryo than the life of American soldiers on foreign soldiers.

You see, liberals hold ALL breathing life sacred. So when one soldier dies for unjust reasons, we ask, WHY? So the fact that we keep asking "WHY?", now 2000 times, it is not in disrespect of the soldiers, but in trying to hold our country's government accountable. I agree, voting in favor of this unjustified war is irresponsible, and I also hold Kerry, et.al. responsible for voting in favor of it. But in the end, whoever is in office is accountable.

Where is the integrity that this president said (in his own campaign speeches) would return to the Oval Office? Right now, members of his administration are facing indictments for the way they went about discrediting honest and truthful resources. So when liberals discredit this president with his own words and actions, Republicans throw up their arms and claim political bias...I DON'T THINK SO. Threatening and putting our intelligence officers in harms way by exposing them to the public is inexcusable, and against the law. Deceiving the public with information that is known to be false, but certaining helps moving forward your own agenda should be also held to the highest scrutiny as if a law was being broken because it leads to the death of now thousands of American soldiers.

So web sites, such as the one I published here, which serve to remind those that may have forgotten, or wish to ignore due to blind faith towards our government, similar to the blind faith they hold towards their religion, is not an insult to the American soldiers, but quite the contrary, allowing us to remember them and honor them, and direct the appropriate questioning, and anger, towards those responsible.

Dwight, yes,my great grandfather fought against Geronimo. Specifically,as the story has it, my great grandfather was one of 30 men who engaged Geronimo in combat at Dog Canyon, New Mexico, near El Paso, in 1877. I believe it was during that confrontation that my great grandfather took an arrow to his leg, a poisoned arrow, he died as a consequence of that wound eventually. By the way,my book is at the printer, the final edition, right now... finally!

But speaking about the character of politicians, like you said, it was the Republicans who set the slaves free, and the Democrats who wanted to keep them as slaves. That hasn't changed, it is the Republicans who want people to better themselves by participating in capitalism and becoming self sufficient, it is the Democrats who want to keep people dependent on government handouts, just like the slaves were dependent on their master's provision, except that today the Democrats want the government to be the master they depend on. Same thing, it is the government's plantation. Back in the days of my great grandfather the Democrats were exacerbating the hardship of American soldiers like my great grand father to discredit the Republican administration in time of war, the same thing today,in fact, the underscoring of the number 2000 by yourself, the website John linked us to, the liberals and Democrats were salivating waiting for that 2000 mark to sound the trumpets and discredit the present administration, not giving a rats tail about the sacrifice and suffering of the American soldiers. The Democrats are not grieving the death of 2000 American soldiers, they are celebrating it because that gives them more opportunity to discredit Bush. We American soldiers don't buy it when these liberals and Democrats say they support us while blaming us of being occupiers rather than liberators, we just don't buy it. We keep our mouths shut because we are supposed to be apolitical, but we don't buy it. When the liberals plaster and flaunt and put millions of dollars to advertise to the world the faults of a handful of soldiers at Abu Graihb, while not only ignoring all the incredible good that has come by the sacrifice of our brothers and sisters in arms but also giving us a terrible reputation in the eyes of the world, we just don't buy it when they put up the website that John linked and say it is because they care about us, we do not buy it at all. That website makes me sick, it turns my stomach because it is a gruesome celebration by liberals of the deaths of American soldiers to promote their political agenda and discredit their political opponents. Now, when the liberal media and politicians stop trumpeting things like Abu Grhaib ad nauseum and begin telling people about all the food and water and schools and medicine and freedom that our soldiers have brought to the people of Iraq and Aghanistan, then I may believe the website is a tribute to our soldiers, when they stop harping on Bush's lie and begin telling people that Clinton believed the same thing, then I will believe that website is a tribute to our American soldiers and not a stomach turning political tool that celebrates in glee the death of the soldiers that keep them free. I am an American soldier like my great grandfather before me, and I am directly responsible for the well being of 1400 American soldiers, and indirectly responsible for at least 3000 more, we are not buying it... but this sounds like its more for the class of 80!... Pasen las chelas!(I'm just trying to bring yall back to ya'lls comfort zone! :) )

Alex, I wonder if your Grandfather fought against Geronimo. The Apache's were known as being merciless and relentless during their attacks, so your Grandfather most certainly would have seen some fiercum battles.

Well, that sucks that politics played into your Grandfather's paycheck back then. But I don't think the statement you made about the "bad seeds among the Democrat politicians were showing symptoms of what they do today all the time" is accurate. As you know both parties have switched sides over the years. The Republicans back then were quite progressive and the Democrats were quite conservative. The Democrats after the Civil War and Reconstruction were closely associated with the Confederacy and quite in favor of maintaining slavery, whereas the young Republican party back then was comprised of the Liberty Party and anti-slavery Whigs. The 'seeds' you describe back then most certainly do not fit the Democratic party of today as they are two distinct and different parties. If fact your comment about the reason he didn't get paid is because one party withholding money to make the other look bad reminds me of when the young, arrogant Republicans in 1995 shut the government down over the budget while trying to gut Medicare, Medicaid, and Head Start. That led to millions in dollars of paychecks being held back for Veterans, Park Service Employees, NASA engineers, and 260 thousand other federal employees. I know, I was one of those people.

Dwight, actually the record you saw is my great grandfather's Indian Wars record (the Indian Wars started during the Civil War when some Dakota Indians from Minnesotta, the Sioux, slaughtered some 800 white settlers thinking the US Army was too busy fighting the Civil War. The Indian Wars flared clear down to Texas where the Apache Indians went around creating havoc. Company D of the Texas Frontier Forces out of San Elizario, Texas in which my great grandfather served was the first Texas Frontier Forces unit organized with the specific purpose of responding to the Indians' agression), the guy who keeps the website didn't post his Civil War record because the quality is too low. At least he got paid that cash in one lump sum! The whole time he served he didn't get paid at all, and they served enduring much hardship "under great wants of water and great cold", and guess what? According to some documents at the time, I hate to tell you this, but a big part of the reason they didn't get paid is because some Democrats were withholding the money to make the Republicans look bad, even then the bad seeds among the Democrat politicians were showing symptoms of what they do today all the time! Anyway, I am sending the final edition of my book to the printer tomorrow (460 or so pages)

Thanks for asking. Yep, we went to Louisiana last week on emergency leave when we heard that the road to Venice finally opened. It was incredible! I mean the destruction was unbelievable man! We took a few pictures and they don't begin to tell the story! The towns of South Plaquemines Parish were completely destroyed, what happened in New Orleans was nothing compared to south Plaquemines Parish! I mean, Port Sulphur, Buras, Empire, Nairn, Boothville, Venice, all the towns were completely destroyed, and not one word in the news! Like those people never existed! Many people are deeply offended because since those towns are largely white and the news focused so much on the suffering of the black people, the feeling there is "I guess white people don't make good for the news" On the other hand, in New Orleans East, where it is abandoned, we saw rows after rows after rows of private vehicles just sitting there in their drive ways. My wife was really mad at those people because she had been defending them saying they were poor and had no way to get out and here we saw that they could have goten out, they just didn't even bother to get their cars out of their driveways, and yet in the news they kept whining that they were so poor they didn't have transportation. We took a few pictures that don't begin to show the story of these parked cars of the poor blacks of New Orleans. The cars were there just parked and hardly moved, the flood there was just a rising of the waters, in Venice though, you will see the inside of my house and church which were among the few building still standing, the flood was a flash flood, extremely violent! I mean, everything was thrown around with tremendous force! I mean, the computer desk, for example, was busted into pieces and one piece was in the toilet two doors down and two right turns away! It was like a literal blender in the house and church! There was no survivng that flood! Anything still standing will have to be bulldozed. Anyway, take a look at some pictures my wife took, when you see some streets that look like there is notheing there, we took the pictures because there used to be neighborhoods there, in a few pictures you will see streets with houses there, but if you look close, you will see all the houses are in the street. The church I am standing in, Riverview Baptist, is not the church I pastored, its a friend's church in Buras where I used to preach alot, same with a church in Port Sulphur, you will see the cross on the outside of that church, I believe the x's mark places where they found dead people, the 0's means they didn't find a body. My church was Venice Community Church, the pastor's office was my office, the sanctuary of that one is where I preached. When you see a church building, like St. Ann's, we took the pictures because there used to be houses all around, Ellzey lane is my street and my neighbor's houses. In all this mess two things were still standing, the Cross and the flag! God and country! The Star Spangled Banner was yet waiving! Hooah! The Southern Battle Banner still stood! And someone even wrote "The South will rise again!" God blessed us though, my family got out just in time and we got everything back and more, and I am now Battalion Chaplain of the 3rd Battalion, 1st Special Warfare Group, Airborne, in Fort Bragg. The soldiers, from the commander to the private all respect me tremendously! They respect my word incredibly, it is overwhelming! I am the chaplain of about 1,450 Special Ops. American soldiers, its awesome! I am satisfied!

Anyway, here is the link to the pictures:
or here was the link, I'm gonna have to wait for my wife to get home from partying with the Fort Bragg chaplain's wives to find out how to link you to the pictures! Sorry!

Dominic: Thanks for the translation!

Actually here's a web-based translator for those who need one: http://www.atlantaga.com/ebonics.htm

Ebonics (sorry for the spelling in my last post) in today's terms directly refers to an African-American venicular of English. Though there are many debates on the subject, Ebonics is not outrightly taught as a language in any official capacity. Now one could say that Spanglish or Espanglish is a form of Ebonics as much as Yiddish. It is basically a slang dialect used by certain groups.

Or was your question really meant to be rehtorical? Or should I say...Yo buss dis. Is it rehtorical? Sheeit!

Now my question: What does Eubonics really mean? Would that include stuff with half spanish/ half english or is it just Mumbo Jumbo forms of expression?
By the way, Mumbo Jumbo is a great album from an Austin band called Bad Mutha Goose.

Dominic, that ROCKS that you were able to get in on Hagar's Birthday Bash! You mentioned that you've been to Sammy's place before and it was very cool. Man, I bet those 55's were awesome as I know for a fact that Cabo Wabo silver blanco is a very high quality, un cien percento agave azul tequila. Making drinks with that good of a booze is certainly living it high on the hog. Did you hang out with Sammy or talk to any of the other band members you mentioned? Hey, if I was Hagar, I'd spend all my time in Mexico too.

Go Saint's: I was at the game yesterday and it was a great game. Too bad the referee gave the Falcons a 2nd chance for the winning field goal. Although I am a diehard Cowboys fan would love for the Saints to stay in San Antonio!

John Maroney: Finally was able to get Barrett's Cowboys jersey. Please mail me your address one last time.

Dwight: My business trip last week took a detour through Cabo. Sammy's B-day was awesome. I was able to catch the Tuesday night show with always guest star Michael Anthony from Van Halen. On Thursday,Sammy's actual Bday (58 years old) had Anthony again plus the drummer for Guns and Roses (now Velvet Revolver). The kick butt 2.5 hour show with everything from solo stuff, to VH, Led Zep, The Who and even Bob Dylan's "Everyone must get Stoned"(everyone obliged)rocked the Cabo Wabo. The show ended when they brought a gigantic Bday cake and the ensuing food fight got going.
Sammy has to be the coolest rocker left in the planet.
The show was free and they even gave plenty of drinks called "55's" for free (Wabo white tequila, Canadian club & cranberry juice) OOuucchhh! My head still hurts but There is only 1 way to Rock!!
News has it Sammy is now permanently living in Cabo and will be playing every Saturday night. So if anyone is out there don't miss it!

Al Everest
Special Teams Coordinator

By stressing teamwork, aggressive tackling and opportunistic play, the Saints' special teams have established a tradition of top-notch play over the last five seasons under Al Everest. Over the last five years, his hard-charging units have ranked among the NFL's best and set a slew of club records.

In 2004, the club had five players win NFC Special Teams Player of the Week awards, the most in franchise history for a single season. Included in that total was four-straight over the final four contests, which tied the NFL record for the most consecutive winners since the inception of the award in 1993. P Mitch Berger was voted for the honor following the victory at Dallas, Dec. 12, RB Aaron Stecker took home the award after the Dec. 19 win at Tampa Bay, WR Michael Lewis earned the accolade following the victory over Atlanta, Dec. 26, and DE Tony Bryant capped the streak after the triumph at Carolina in the finale.

K John Carney was also named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week after tying a team record with five field goals at St. Louis, Sept. 26. Also last season, Lewis became the team's all-time punt return leader and had a 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Stecker added a 98-yard kick return for a TD and Berger was voted to the Pro Bowl after leading the league in net punting average at 39.5.

In 2003, Carney established a team record with 22-straight contests with a field goal, Berger led the league in net punting average and the Saints notched three straight games with a blocked field goal, the longest such streak in the NFL since 2000.

In 2002, the Saints had three touchdown returns, blocked five kicks and a forced interception for a TD while rushing a punt. Carney set a club scoring record with 130 points and Lewis set an NFL record with 2,432 combined kickoff and punt return yards. The Saints also set a team record by allowing an average of 5.5 yards on 38 punt returns. Everest was named 2002 NFL Special Teams Coach of the Year in a vote by his peers and The Dallas Morning News listed New Orleans as having the league's No. 1 special teams in the publication's annual ranking.

In 2001, the Saints led the NFC in average drive start, featured the conference's most-accurate kicker and ranked among the leaders in kickoff return average.

Everest brings 34 years of coaching experience to his post, arriving in New Orleans in 2000 after a four-year stint in the same capacity at Arizona. In 1999, the Cardinals ranked third in the NFL in defensive punt return coverage, fifth in opponent net punting average and second in field goal defense. In 1998, Arizona had four game-winning field goals on the final play.

Everest relies on a diverse background, having worked on both sides of the ball and around the globe. He served as athletic director and football coach at the American School Foundation in Mexico City from 1976-80, and baseball coach at U.S. International University from 1981-87. He then entered the pro ranks, coaching in Italy from 1988-91. Everest also spent part of 1991 as a scout for the Pro Spring Football League, before serving as secondary coach with the Arkansas Miners in 1992.

In 1992, Everest was offensive coordinator of the San Antonio Force in the Arena Football League. He returned to Italy in1993 before coaching at The Colony (Lewisville, Texas) HS. In 1995, Everest was special teams coordinator of the CFL Birmingham Barracudas.

A two-year starter at safety at SMU from 1970-71, Everest earned a master's degree from North Texas, and a Doctorate of Education from U.S. International. His father, Andy, was an assistant with the Saints under Bum Phillips from 1981-85. Born Aug. 22, 1950, Everest has two daughters, Michelle and Kaycee.

Hey! John B. and those interested in history and those just nosey, remember how some time ago I had shared some of my family's history and had posted a link to my great grandfather's military records and you said you couldn't get through to see them? Well, the man that keeps the website where my grandfather's picture on horseback is finally posted those military documents. He didn't post my great grandfather's Civil War record, but at least he posted his Indian Wars record, it only took him since a little after you couldn't see the documents. Anyway, here is a link were ya'll can view my great grandfather's military record, it is fascinating to me! (And very valuable, especially since I lost these documents during Katrina)

Alex M, comments from a research health physicist here at NIOSH:

My first thought is that the ANR headsets will not be of much use for a router. The reason has to do with the frequency of the router (1-4 kHz) and the viable range for the ANR (<500 Hz). What happens is the headset can realiably produce a cancelling wave for low frequencies which helps to boost the performance for rumbly noise and things like propeller airplanes. Once you get above a 1000 Hz, the physics of generating a cancellation waveform appropriate to that frequency becomes quite difficult.

Ramon, I would have thought the US was the second largest producer of Whiskey. What's neat about trivia involving consumption or production rates it almost always follows closely to population numbers. The most populated countries are most always the top producers of certain goods, although that's not always the case as pointed out by the Whiskey production.

Isn't anise flavoring the same as licorice? I would guess it's a South American country and I'm going to go with the largest in both population and size, Brazil.

Dwight, I agree. Shrub is so out of touch with reality. Of course, it is not his fault. You've got to blame all of the intelligence agencies for giving him false information. The thing that gets to me is how he continues. For example, on Thursday, the specifics on the 10 terrorist activities that he claimed the administration thwarted turned out to be Carlos Padilla's arrest (which he still hasn't been charged on any crime) and the arrest of a muslim who apparently had plans to blow up the Brooklynn Bridge, but then abandoned long before he was arrested. When the authorities finally were pressed, they claimed that indeed there are no activities they know of that have been actually thwarted.

But low and behold, after making that statement, the dreaded NY Subway memo goes out by the administration, causing NY to go into panic...all of this from a source that the FBI and the CIA outright claim that it is not a credible source. Outcome, three arrests... in IRAQ! Wag the dog, baby, wag the dog...

Ok, so I work with many people from India and today is Indian dress day. One of the girls brought in a beautiful sari for me to wear (burgundy and gold, our AHS favorite) I have to say, it feels very odd to be in my cubical wearing what feels oddly similar to a toga. John, I'll bite on that rant ;)

Yea, it doesn't surprise me much with W that he'd go with his 'gut' on this one and pick Miers, basically someone with no credentials for the position. You know, kinda like Mike Brown and FEMA. What's kinda entertaining to watch is the far right attack her as not being the complete pro-choice, Roe v Wade eradicator savior they hoped for. Either he appointed her knowing the right neocons would freak out and cast her to the island of misfit nominees, giving them Gonzales or another rightful heir, or he's just way out into his own Bush World that he doesn't care what anyone thinks. Anyhow, the more interesting news this week concerning Bush World to me was surrounding the senate committee meeting with the joint chiefs of staff and generals over the Iraq War. After W went before the camera and on his weekly radio address touting 30, 80, or 100 trained Iraqi battalions, it was interesting to see McCain ask General Meyers how many fully operational battalions Iraq's army has. Well, the number seems to have dropped from a whopping 3 to 1! DOH!

Personally, I think Mexicans dig American football, especially teams like San Fran, Dallas, Houston, and Miami. Packing Stadium Azteca with 103 thousand plus fans is quite impressive considering that's way higher than the average stadium attendance for an NFL game and a fair percentage of teams have a hard time selling out their home games. Here's an article that basically doesn't agree with me:

Mexico not likely to become regular NFL stop
Despite staging 49ers-Cards game in Mexico City, franchise 'not a priority'

MEXICO CITY - Don’t expect the NFL to stick around Mexico very long after Sunday’s game between the Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers, the first regular-season game played outside the United States.

NFL Mexico, which oversees the sport in this country, says it has no plans to push for a team anytime soon. It appears content to follow the lead of the NBA and Major League Baseball, which played games that counted in Mexico in years past, but haven’t seriously considered sanctioning Mexican franchises.

“A franchise in Mexico, it’s not a priority for the short or medium term,” said Geraldine Gonzalez of the league’s Mexico City office. “It’s not so viable.”

Alex McGrath: If you don't find those headsets you might want to check out an Acoustic Cabin that actually absorbs the noise. Most noise usually bounces off walls, floor, ceilings and creates even higher Db's. In Mexico by law you should be under 90 db's and in the USA is a max of 85 db's.
The bad thing is these puppies are not cheap. If you got some $ to spend check this out http://www.acousticsystems.com

Dwight, by what you've mentioned you're an Ergonomics guru, right? I need your help. I'm working in a noisy environment (with a couple of CNC routers). Do you know if there are noise-cancelling headsets for industrial use? You know, the ones that produce waves that cancel out the noise waves. I've found these headsets for pilots, and for listening to music but not for this type of environment. Any ideas?

Ramon, felicidades (un dia temprano).

Warning: Rant Follows
Dwight: So, now Delay is indicted and is facing the possibility of a prison term (which we all know will never happen as we do not put politicians in prison often enough). Now Mier's is another story. Talk about cronyism to the MAX...I like Shrub's version of how he "couldn't find a better candidate" <chuckle>. He left out, "...a better candidate in my pocket!" The background on this woman is incredible. From first being paid by Shrub during his governatorial races to find any skeleton's, and when she found one who was a lobbyist for the companies that run the Texas lotteries (he had helped Shrub senior get his son into the Texas National Guard to avoid the draft), then she was appointed to the Texas Lottery Commission. Then suddenly, this lobbyist was let go (with a $23M severance) and all of a sudden everything is well and good with the lottery commission and Shrub continues in his political career.

She has represented slimy corporate companies and has no judicial experience...has never presented a case in front of the supreme court. She has been a close personal friend of the Shrub's and has helped him in his own coverups. I'm sorry, but she doesn't have the qualifications for being on the Supreme Court bench. I don't care if she comes across as a liberal sympathizer, she's just not the best candidate for the job. I'd rather see a conservative hard-liner with vast experience (such as Roberts) being presented than not. Guess we're into the lame-duck presidency at this time <sigh>.

Aside from the fact that the 9ers lost and actually gave a lousy game, it was great! En fin, I think everybody that went there really enjoyed it. Alex J., como se la pasaron?

Eric: Congratulations on your articles. I know several in your field that take the Journal to heart and to see someone associated with AHS publishing in there is great.

Dwight: I can't believe Delay was indicted...NOT!!! 'Bout time. If only congress would face up to his unethical behavior instead of condoning it. Funny how some are feeling that it is totally politically motivated when the prosecuting attorney has prosecuted more Democrats than Republicans in his state (12 Dems to 4 Reps by last count). Of course, this is more politically motivated with less substantive matter than say Ken Starr's "Whitewater" case from a few years back <chuckle>.

Donald Rumsfeld is giving the President his daily briefing. He concludes by saying: "Yesterday, 3 Brazilian soldiers were killed in an accident."

"OH NO!" the President exclaims. "That's terrible!"

His staff sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the President sits, head in hands. Finally, the President looks up and asks "How many is a Brazillion?"

Eric, sounds like a productive publication run for you buddy. Most Ph.D. researchers, scientists or MDs manage to publish only 2 o 3 peered reviewed publications a year.

Dwight: I commend you for attending the best of all Religious ceremonies. I also had the opportunity to see The Priest in San Antonio a couple of months ago and it Rocked!
Just yesterday I visited a customer in Monterrey and he had also just seen them a couple of weeks ago. Let's just hope it not another 20 years before we can attend these badass religious events. As per Loya's comments I think there is still hope for him as he occasionally still plays a little Priest and he might be able to listen to that one KK guitar riff that might save his mind from wanting to burn records and other very weird stuff.

Maroney: Just back from a long Mex trip. I will attend to Barret's sunday worship clothing this weekend and let you know as soon as I can ship it up there. GO COWBOYS!

Anne spent several years working with the Park Service everywhere from the Olympics, to Rocky Mountain to Denali in Alaska. In the off season she made beautiful furniture. But for the last several years whe has switched directions. I'm not sure exactly what she would call it, but I guess she would be sort of a contractor. I might actually be describing this wrong. But basically what I think she does is to buy old run down buildings (houses and apartment buildings) and fix them up and then resell or rent them out. In her spare time she is very active in a dance group and has learned to dance everything from ballroom dancing to the Tango.

Alex, it's more that he supports the rich getting richer while the wealth of our country is being concentrated in fewer hands. Everyone else just gets poorer. Don't take my word, look at the statistics since he's been in office. Poverty is up, median income is down, and more and more people are uninsured. Our country has seen a decline in the middle income bracket while those incomes in the top 20 percent have increased. As far as a "blame America first" liberal goes, I'm not sure what you mean by that. I thought it was more the right that blames America for the current state it is in, you know like the liberal media, the liberal courts, the liberal environmentalists, the liberal atheists, the liberal abortionists, yada, yada, yada... This lib likes things the way they are, which is certainly more conservative that our current administration.

Dwight, well, that explains it all bro! All that metal and doobies have you believing the liberal media and you actually think President Bush robs the poor to give to the rich! Alright, alright, I feel better for you now, I was beginning to worry about you but now I finally see a logical explanation to your views about President Bush... Metal, doobies plus the liberal media... now it all makes sense! :)

Not that I don't like Metal, when I first became a Christian I dumped all my albums in the garbage, but as I grew and matured I realized that not all secular music is bad, I don't pick and choose from the Bible, but I do pick and choose from Judas Priest, some of their songs I some times rock to, just as long as they don't disrespect the Lord, let it ROCK! (and also not so much that it turns my mind away from the Lord)

Stay away from the doobies and next time you'll vote Republican!

Alex, you would be proud of me as there is hope yet. On this past Sunday, on the Holy Day of our Father, I went to see the Priest to repent for my sins. Yes, it is true, I have spent the past 22 years as a believer in the Methodist Evangelical Teachings Anthem of Lutherans and Revival Organization and Congregations of Spiritual Holiness with Awareness of Reunion Diciples also known as METAL ROCS HARD. It was back in 1983 when I experienced my last spiritual awakening with my brothers and the auditory cleansing of my soul. But alas, Father Halford forgave me for such a long time away from worship. He lead the choir as he sang the hymns of Judas while clergy members KK Downing and Glen Tipton presented the blessed metal accompaniment!

Dwight, I didn't know you forwarded my post and I was not aware that they jumped on it, I'll have to check it out... I know they jumped on you for posting that picture of Bush playing the guitar while a woman cried, like I said there, even though President Bush is the greatest thing that has happened to American politics since sliced bread, I still love you my friend! Come heah! Lemme give you a noogie!

Allyson and Ramon and all, I really do appreciate your concern, we are fully recovered now! We got everything back and a bunch of things that we either wanted, like the bed room set and the three piece entertainment center which happened to be exactly what my wife was thinking about buying, or things that were exactly the same, from a 30 year old topper ware thing no longer manufactred to little Ms.Moo Cow. Anyway, we are absolutely blessed!

I was just able yesterday to get in touch with my church members from Venice, they lost everything and have not gotten everything back like I and my family did. One of my people, Dale Scarabin, went to Venice by boat and he said the church building and my house are still standing, but they will have to be bull dozed as all of the Parish (County in Louisiana) will be if it is not yet down because the water gutted everything. The fact that the house is still standing gave me hope that maybe I will be able to recover my book! Praise the Lord for that!
Dale and them said they are going back to Venice and to rebuild again, his wife Rodelle said they can not live anywhere else, that is home, and when they say that is home, they mean that is home, their grandma Mrs. Muriel Buras showed me the title to the land given to her family by the King of Spain in the year 1799 when Louisiana was part of Northern New Spain! They have been in little bitty Venice ever since, they are from Venice like my family is from San Elizario, Texas, except that they never ventured out to this day as my grandfather did when my dad and them were young teens, their ancient local population is still the same as in 1799, whereas in San Elizario the original colonials are mostly gone and have been replaced by a ton of mostly illegal aliens. But, anyway, everything in Venice will have to be bulldozed if not already destroyed, but they are going back to rebuild... God bless them, they are good people! They received my family and I like one of them, they would bring fish freshly caught to me, they would knock on my door with bags of satsumas or grapefruits fresh off the tree, and the would always invite me to the delicious, and I mean delicious! crawfish boils! Yum! I will miss the crawfish boils! The good thing is that since New Orleans is still our home town we will be back often for more crawfish!

Anyway... I'm going to have to go see what you are talking about there Dwight!

Cyndy, I drove from Acapulco to Ixtapa two years ago. Its a 3 - 31/2 hour drive. Its only a two lane highway, but it isn't too bad, since you are driving along the coast, it avoids a lot of the curviness of the mountain roads.

Dwight. Indeed. However, we were unable to see anything due to low cloud cover a week ago. Bummer. It's funny, whenever there is a vivid display of northern lights our horses always seem restless.

Dwight, de nada. Next time.

Although my last trip to the Tepeji ranch was in 3rd grade, I always considered my self a part of.... until... 1982 y yo en la Universidad Anahuac. The school of architecture was much like the middle school, gallineros. Somehow, several walls in houses in Tecamachalco and Lomas appeared with graffiti: "Tepeji Gang". Needless to say, ninguna obra de arte. I really never believed that a real Tepeji Gang"ster" would do such a thing and when mentioned I stood up for them and admitted the gang"sters" were my friends. Me and my big mouth. One day, I show up at school and at my clasroom's entrance, there it was, graffitied on the floor, "Tepeji Gang". Me quise morir! You can all imagine the jokes amongst my 40 male classmates.

Dwight, yes, the palomas were the triangular shaped firecrackers. They fell out of favor by some upperclassmen when they missused them and a wick ended up almost taking Kerri Dunn's eye out. But, proper handling of them allowed you to have a lot of fun with them (similar to M-80's (or are they M-8's, I can't remember their names) over here <g>). In any case, I miss them. I never could drink a caguama. I have never learned to burb on demand and having that much beer in one sitting gives me terrible bloatness that I usually get too uncomfortable before I enjoy the, umm, libation as it was intended to be enjoyed <G>. Cueritos, on the other hand, I still enjoy to this day when available.

John M, I wish I had your vantage point for such cool views of the sky.

Alex L, I'm glad to hear that things are continuing to go well for you. I really can't understand why some fellow classmates from '80 jumped on that post I forwarded of yours on their chat. You know I'm not the biggest one to understand the Lord (Mike can attest to that), but I don't think it's very cool to rag on someone who feels blessed by the chain of events you have encountered. It's probably more that some on that site don't care much for my political views. Don't take it seriously amigo.

John B, I remember how Dominic would dangle those lucious, limp and dripping cueritos down his throat as he chased them with a mega chupe de caguama :) Were the palomas the triangular shaped firecrackers that were made from folded up newspaper?

Homero, I think you might have something there with tequila flavored donuts. We'll have to dunk a few in tequila at the reunion next year!

Anacecilia, thanks again for offering to host my friends. I talked with Anne Marie and she said she didn't have a chance to call you. She and her girl friend ended up only spending 3 nights in Mexico City and didn't have much time other than hang out in the Zocalo, drink Victorias, and chow on tacos al pastor.

Alison:
I had forgotton about the walkovers and splits. I can't even fathom being that flexible! I found a picture of us (circa 5th grade) taken at the Sprague's house with Coach Coleman. About the ghost--that was the first thing that came to my mind when you posted!! I remember we thought we where having a seance. What a great house and what a great location!
I have two children--1 week shy of being one year apart. Alessa is 5 and Breighton is 4. I have lived in Colorado in the foothills west of Denver. We are on 20 acres--and the only thing we have gotten to grow is a cherry tree. Our elevation is 8,500 feet and combined with the latitude, nothing except sage, pine trees, and aspens grow. We have a resident bear, lots of coyotes, deer, elk, and an occasional mountain lion. My dream is to have a vineyard!
How fun to do interior design--and how different from politics!! What are your brothers up to? Are your mom and dad up in Canada as well?
I am not sure about the reunion yet--we have to iron out logistics and whether we make a family vacation for a week and drive up to Ixtapa.

Has anyone driven from Acapulco to Ixtapa?

I am so glad that you and your family got away from New Orleans safely. I have been thinking about you a lot in the last couple of weeks.

Cindy:
Wow!Yes it has been 30 years. But I remember it as if it were yesterday. Remember hanging out in your yard practicing the splits and walkovers? And chasing the ghost at my house?
I am living in British Columbia, in the town of Osoyoos, right on the US border. My husband Bill and I (we've been married for 5 years) bought an old orchard two years ago and are converting it to a vineyard. I am also working toward becoming an interior designer.
I spent 10 years in federal politics in Ottawa, where Bill and I met. We are happy to be living in a small town where life is a bit more relaxed.
You're in Colorado, aren't you? And you have one child? What have you been up to?
We are planning to go to the Acapulco reunion in May. I hope you are too.

Dominic is so right. The Tepeji Gang was (usually) a peace-loving group who didn't mess with others, except when a bully needed a slap on the wrist. I was one of those who felt silently protected by the Gang, and even if I was totally different from them, was always respected by them. The truth is, anybody who was Dominic’s friend felt protected. The same thing happened if you were on Alex Serrano's good side. Maybe in another 20 years we'll see a plaque in honor of the Gang. But where would you place it? En la tiendita maybe.

The Mexico City quake was 20 years ago today. Those dreaded images still send chills down your spine. Our Katrina.

John M.: Thanks for filling me in.

Dominic: Wow, sounds like you guys provided a nice service <g>. I remember eating those cueritos down at the tiendita. Something I haven't done in a while. I also remember purchasing quite a large amount of paloma's. I remember in 8th grade purchasing a few with Robert Trejo and then letting one off in the assembly we had over the bridge. We lit one with a long fuse, tossed it below the seat in front of us, and then Trejo, Victor (Flores), and I stood up and calmly walked up the aisle to the back of the auditorium and were at the door when it went off. It really scared us all, but it was hillarious. The entire auditorium fell silent right afterwards. Anyway...enough of memory lane. Thanks for describing the "gang" for us.

Ramon: Que paso? What business are you in now?

John B: On the Tepeji Gang:
Most people forget about all of the charity and fundraisers done by that organization. I remember the time we drank every caguama and ate every cuerito down at La Tiendita with part of the proceedings going towards the burial cost of the car painter who lived next door to La Tiendita. We did threaten to beat up a few popis thatshowed up but only if they did not donate a few pesos towards the Painter's burial. There were also times when fellow students would ask us to protect them from bullies and we would be happy to help.As a reward, we would usually get a torta and refresco from the snack bar or even just for answers to the next Algebra test. So don't believe all these stories you might hear/read. We were out to have fun doing what we did, very much like any other social or church group.

Viva Mexico!

I'm here for the same reason that Eric was on yesterday, encouraged by Didar to check your site out. Alex as you well know, some do not like that you mention God in your posts, but as far as I'm concerned I am not only very happy to know that God kept all of your family safe during Katerina, but also that your faith in God is sustaining you in the midst of all the tragic loss.

Werren, thanks man! I will have to ask you again about this data recovery company when and if I am able to recover the hardrive. If they are able to save my History of the Loya, I will be very, very greatful to you!

Here we keep being surprised and blessed and reminded that it is the Lord who is working through the soldiers who just want to keep helping us in any way they can. Just now, we were going through a box of baby clothes that someone gave us, and all of a sudden Kirsten says "Ms. Moo Cow!" You see, Ms. Moo Cow was a little stuffed cow with a blue teething toy attached to it that al of our kids had had since Kirsten was born in 1996. Our youngest, little bit, had been attached to it last. Ms. Moo Cow was lost in the hurricane, but here we got the same exact stuffed cow just now! I mean, exactly! Plus we also got a set of little lippers that had Zebras on them, the exact same thing! It is so incredible how we are getting all these things from people that Kirsten says its realy weird how we are getting a bunch of the stuff we lost. I just tell her its the goodness of the Lord!

Anyway, thanks so much Werren!...
I will have to check out the class of 80's message board!

John. The Tepeji Gang refers to Dominic's ranch in Tepeji del Rio. Although I never had the opportunity to visit this hallowed ground I do know it was witness to "major pedas". Legend has it that someone was run over by a VW bug during some festivities. .Evidently a good time was had by all.

Alex, there's a company in Florida called ECO data recovery that does a really good job of data recovery if you can find that hard drive. Also, I bet I can get Kinkos or a local company make a copy of my 81 yearbook and mail you one. Of course it wouldn't have signatures that you might have gotten. I could also scan every page and make a huge PDF file for you so you could enjoy it on a computer :)

Sunspot 798/808 flared twice more yesterday, and at least one of the X-class explosions propelled a coronal mass ejection (CME) toward Earth. NOAA forecasters estimate a 70% chance of severe geomagnetic activity when the CME arrives--perhaps tonight, Sept. 14-15. Sky watchers at all latitudes should be alert for auroras.

Observing tips: Although auroras are sometimes bright enough to shine through city lights, you'll see more from a dark-sky site in the countryside. The best time to look is usually during the hours around local midnight.

Hi Jodi! Yep! I lost every little bit I had except what was loaded in the van, but the Lord has been so good through the Army, I got a house on post at Fort Bragg in about an hour or two instead of 3 to 6 months, the soldiers replaced all of our furniture, but I saw the hand of the Lord in that we got back some things that were exactly the same we lost, like my kids bunk bed just happened to be the exact same thing, ad even a green topper ware thing my wife had that was her mom's and was like 30 years old or more, we got that thing, same color and everything, just amazing! So, we are back on our feet and today I finished in processing as the Battallion Chaplain of the 3rd Battallion 1st Special Warfare Training Group, Airborne, here at Fort Bragg... hooah! We are doing great, but the people I pastored in Venice, they lost more than I did in that they lost their livelyhood as fishermen there, and some lost property they had owned since Louisiana was part of Spain which they won't recover unless the Gulf of Mexico goes back to its original banks. I did loose a couple of things I valued a lot, like my ahs yearbook and the 6th grade eagle, I also lost all my boy scouts of America stuff I still had, all my sports medals, all of my theology books, and I lost my original book "History of the Loya (Inncluding the Essential Role of Texas and Louisiana in the American Revolution)" from which I started the book that I now published... now, that grieves me because that is literaly years and years of research, visiting libraries, searching through archives, I mean, a serious research project and I lost it all, even a letter I got years ago from the Istituto Araldico Coccia, Coccia Heraldic Institute, out of Florence, Italy which was the original foundation of all my research for the book I lost, those things I can't recover, but I have all my babies safe with me, my one book is safe, who knows, maybe the Lord preserved a disk or maybe I can get somebody to recover my book from the hardrive, I lost all kinds of documents... bummer, but, hey, the Lord gives and the Lord takes away, blessed be the name of the Lord! And I do have a synopsis of the lost book in my present book, the whole first chapter is a synopsis of the first book I lost. Anyway... hugs to all!

Hey gang. I think that I am up for air now. Going back to work well I haven't had much time to do anything but work and family. I was wondering how Loya was and it's great to have this chat room to be able to catch up. Loya you are in my prayers. 1.

Homero, sorry to hear about your neighbor's dog. The pond waterbloom you described certainly sounds like blue-green algae, more specifically cyanobacteria. Considering the dog became sick after ingesting the water, I think it is reasonable to assume that something in the water caused the illness. The hot weather combined with duck feces certainly aides in the eutrophication of the pond which caused the bloom. You've probably read up on this, but to explain it to those who care to know a little better when the cyanobacteria cells die and rupture a potent hepatotoxin (liver toxic) is released into the water. Once the toxin enters the body and blood stream it attacks liver cells causing them to die, causing blood to pool in the liver. If the vet hasn't already performed an autopsy, he should examine the liver for necrotic death. Also, a sample of the water and liver could be analyzed by a competent lab using HPLC or ELISA methods to determine if it is microcystin toxin.

As far as notifying the Municipio, I would call and tell them what happened and suggest they handle treating the pond in a safe manner. That would include (from what I just read up on) filtering the water to remove the algae, treating it with activated charcoal (the toxin binds to the carbon in the charcoal), then adding copper sulfate or chlorine to further inhibit or kill what algae is left. If they treat the water first with the chemicals, the algae will rupture releasing even higher amounts of the toxin into the water. Once that's completed they should install an aerator or fountain to oxygenate the water which will one, aid in promoting less harmful organisms that can break down the nitrogen and other nutrients being introduced, and two keep the levels of cyanobacteria in check so a subsequent bloom is less likely to occur.

This is a dog related post...
My neighbor raises Whippets. For those that don't know what they are, well let's put it this way, they are smaller than a greyhound but larger than an Italian greyhound. That's to say they're just the right size. Actually we own a puppy from their most recent litter and it's amazing how soon it won the heart of the whole family.
Well the thing is last saturday my neighbor went out on a run with two dogs and since it was a typical hot august Monterrey day after they finished he approached a pond in a park so the dogs had a drink. He tells me there were ducks in the pond. Only one dog drank water and ten minutes after he couldn't walk. He had to carry it to the car, he thought it was exhausted from the heat. He got home it was vomiting, so he called his friend vet, they gave him some medicine and it stayed home just lying down and vomiting, and diarrea, ugly scene. That was saturday. Sunday afternoon my wife walks across to say hi and finds out about this so she calls our vet and he says bring it right now, the dog couldn't even raise its head. So this guy tells us it's bad, seems brain was swollen. Stayed overnight, next day, it passed away. We were all really sad but I just wonder what happened. I've been reading around I've found about some cyanobacteria which seem to be really wicked and toxic little algae that sometimes thrive in ponds when it's hot. Drink a lethal dose and no antidote is available. Bad thing is that since sunday it has been raining a lot so probably if we go check this pond we won't find evidence of a deadly concentration of these bacteria. Forgot to say that even though the other dog didn't drink the water it seems it licked the other dog and got a little sick for a couple of days and fortunately it recovered. If anybody has any idea about this and could suggest what else could have happened I'll appreciate it. I just want to have more info before I blast the Municipio. Sadly this won't bring Tito back. Don't let your dog drink from a pond in late summer or early autumn specially if it's hot, the water is bluegreen and has foam or slime on part of it.

From the CDC Director’s Emergency Operation Center
P.M. Dispatch, September 8, 2005

Top Line—Public Health:

Carbon monoxide deaths and poisoning among Hurricane Katrina affected states are being reported and people should be urgently cautioned about this hazard.

The potential for post-storm and flooding injuries is a concern. CDC offers guidance on protective clothing and equipment for people returning to storm or flood areas.

Rapid health assessments for public health delivery, infectious and environmental health concerns, and mental well-being are ongoing.

National Public Health Emergency Situation Update:

Persons in Evacuation Centers: 504 open, 143,712 people in 14 states (numbers fluctuate daily)

Damage Assessments: 825,903 without power (858,758 9/7)
Official Death Numbers: AL 2; FL 14; LA 59; MS 154 Total: 229

CDC Public Health Workforce Deployed in Affected Communities:

Total: 202 (182: 9/7) including the following specialties: laboratorians, medical, epidemiologist, sanitation, environmental health, assessment, disease surveillance, public information and health risk communication.
By State: DC 3; GA 6; LA 79 (63 09/07); MS 51 (44 9/7); TX 61 (59 9/7) AR 1 (See last page for deployment locations map)

Preparing to Deploy: 5
Deployed to Director’s EOC: 159 (As of 9/7)

CDC Public Health Analysis:

To date 13 people among those affected by Hurricane Katrina were reported to be ill from infections caused by Vibrio spp. The majority of these infectious are wound infections associated with Vibrio vulnificus. This remains a small but increasing number of confirmed illnesses. Infection control includes avoiding warm seawater from coming into contact with broken skin or wounds, and vigorous wound cleaning and medical evaluation. The illness is of greatest threat to persons with weakened immune systems and the elderly. This illness is not transmitted person to person. CDC is working with local and state public health officials and clinicians in shelters to conduct rapid disease detection and ongoing disease surveillance. A fact sheet and Health Advisory have been disseminated.

In addition, to correct misreports about the types of illnesses that are being detected, it may be helpful to know that the bacterial species Vibrio cholerae has many different types, or serogroups. Only two of those types have ever caused epidemic cholera: serogroups O1 and O139 (O139 is found only in Asia).Even among those serogroups, strains that lack cholera toxin are not going to cause cholera.

The other serogroups are known collectively as "non O1, non O139 V. cholerae." Although these can cause diarrheal illness, it is generally mild, compared with the organism that causes the disease cholera, and do not have epidemic potential. These bacteria also rarely can cause wound infections. Diarrheal illness is treated with rehydration. Sepsis or wound infections require antibiotic treatment.

Like other Vibrios, non 01, non 0139 V. cholerae:

have a natural reservoir in the brackish waters along the coast, particularly warm, subtropical waters.
the most common route of infections is from eating raw or undercooked shellfish harvested from those waters, especially raw oysters.
infections are seasonal, with a peak in the late summer, early fall coinciding with the warmest water temperatures
Sporadic Disease Clusters

Sporadic outbreaks of diarrheal diseases among persons living in evacuation centers continue to be reported. Most cases occur in clusters. Infection control measures include vigorous and consistent hand washing and patient separation from the larger population. Public health and medical personnel are monitoring supplies of oral rehydration therapy and hygiene products, including hand sanitation gel.

CDC’s National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has provided guidance to flood cleanup workers in the Hurricane Katrina affected areas. Workers and volunteers involved with flood cleanup should avoid direct skin contact with flood waters if possible and through the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and clothing. People should wear sturdy boots (not sneakers), heavy work gloves and hats. Goggles and ear protection are also recommended.

A medical intake form is now available. CDC has created an interim form to be used for medical intake assessment and triage of evacuees entering an evacuation center. The form can be used to identify persons who were evacuated who may need additional medical evaluation and treatment. The form can be used to anonymously report medical conditions among evacuees such as respiratory illness, gastrointestinal illness, dermatologic conditions, mental health conditions, and injuries. It also can be used to identify chronic health issues and medication needs. For more information and a electronic copy of the intake form: www.bt.cdc.gov/disasters/hurricanes/katrina/evacueeform.asp.

Public Health Recommendations: Pass it On

Preventing Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
People in areas with power outages due to Hurricane Katrina, should never use generators, grills, camp stoves, or other gasoline, propane, natural gas, or charcoal-burning devices inside your home, basement, garage, or camper—or even outside near an open window. Carbon monoxide (CO) is an odorless, colorless gas that can cause sudden illness and death if you breathe it. When power outages occur during emergencies such as hurricanes or winter storms, you may try to use alternative sources of fuel or electricity for heating, cooling, or cooking. CO from these sources can build up in your home, garage, or camper and poison the people and animals inside.

People uncomfortable in their homes should look to friends or a community evacuation center for help. If someone must use an alternative source of fuel or electricity, they should be sure to use it only outside and away from open windows. Every year, more than 500 people die from accidental CO poisoning. CO is found in combustion fumes, such as those produced by small gasoline engines, stoves, generators, lanterns, and gas ranges, or by burning charcoal and wood. CO from these sources can build up in enclosed or partially enclosed spaces. People and animals in these spaces can be poisoned and can die from breathing CO in an enclosed or partially enclosed space.

How to Recognize CO Poisoning: Exposure to CO can cause loss of consciousness and death. The most common symptoms of CO poisoning are headache, dizziness, weakness, nausea, vomiting, chest pain, and confusion. People who are sleeping or who have been drinking alcohol can die from CO poisoning before ever having symptoms. If you think you may have CO poisoning, consult a health care professional right away.

Important Tips

Never use a gas range or oven to heat a home.
Never use a charcoal grill, hibachi, lantern, or portable camping stove inside a home, tent, or camper.
Never run a generator, pressure washer, or any gasoline-powered engine inside a basement, garage, or other enclosed structure, even if the doors or windows are open, unless the equipment is professionally installed and vented. Keep vents and flues free of debris, especially if winds are high. Flying debris can block ventilation lines.
Never run a motor vehicle, generator, pressure washer, or any gasoline-powered engine outside an open window or door where exhaust can vent into an enclosed area.
Never leave the motor running in a vehicle parked in an enclosed or partially enclosed space, such as a garage.

Guidance for Flood Cleanup Workers
CDC’s National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has provided guidance to flood cleanup workers in the Hurricane Katrina affected areas. Workers and volunteers involved with flood cleanup should avoid direct skin contact with flood waters if possible and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and clothing. In most instances, the selection of PPE will be dependent on site specific conditions, hazards, and tasks. The following are some of the PEE and clothing recommendations for flood response workers:

Electrically insulated, watertight boots with steel shank, toe, and insole. Tennis shoes or sneakers should not be worn because they will transfer contamination and will not prevent punctures, bites, or crush injuries. Hip waders may be appropriate to help prevent contact with flood waters;
Heavy, waterproof, cut-resistant work gloves. Other types of protective gloves may be required if handling identified material hazards;
Goggles, safety glasses with side shields or full face shields. Sun/glare-protective lenses may be needed in some work settings;
Soft hat or other protective head cover. Wear an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) rated hardhat if there is any danger of falling debris or electrical hazards;
Hearing protection (when working in an environment with any noise that you must shout over to be heard);
Comfortable, form fitting, light-weight clothing including long pants and a long sleeved shirt or coveralls;
Under some work conditions, NIOSH approved respirators may be necessary (e.g., for exposures to mold-contaminated materials/environments, or other recognized chemical, physical, or biological hazards).

Yea, US beat Mexico in soccer, but hey at least the Mexican people have a great heart :)

NUEVO LAREDO, Mexico, Sept 8 (Reuters) - A Mexican army convoy rolled into the United States on Thursday with food, water and medicine for Hurricane Katrina victims, the first Mexican military operation on U.S. soil in 90 years.

Part of an aid package that includes ships and rescue teams, the convoy of 45 olive-green vehicles and some 200 troops went over the Rio Grande into Texas from the city of Nuevo Laredo, witnesses said.

Mexicans, who often have a love-hate relationship with their northern neighbor, are surprised and proud at being able to help in the hurricane aftermath. Mexico has often been the recipient of foreign aid for earthquakes and other natural disasters.

People cheered, waved, honked car horns and rang bells in villages as the convoy snaked up to the border this week.

While millions of Mexicans have trekked north in pursuit of the American dream, many at home are still sore at having lost half their territory to the United States in the 19th century.

Mexico is one of dozens of nations, including some as poor as Cuba and Bangladesh, to offer aid to the United States as it grapples with one of the worst natural disasters in its history in hurricane-swamped New Orleans and surrounding areas.

The Mexican army trucks, filled with of thousands of ready-to-eat meals, drinking water and medical equipment, were searched like regular vehicles as they crossed the border early on Thursday headed for San Antonio, Texas customs officials said.

"It's a good thing because they're taking aid to the victims," said Beatriz Gonzalez, 26, who gave the troops free soft drinks as they stopped for gasoline on the Mexican side of the border.

Troops inside the trucks were given malaria tablets and vaccinations against diseases like Hepatitis, Cholera and Tetanus -- ironically the same shots wary American tourists might get before visiting parts of Mexico.

Mexican forces under revolutionary Gen. Francisco "Pancho" Villa, angry at U.S. support for a rival, staged a small raid into New Mexico in 1916.

They were the bedraggled remnants of an army faction on the losing side of the Mexican revolution but their action is seen by historians as the last military incursion into the United States.

The Villa troops killed several people on a raid on Columbus, New Mexico, prompting Washington to send a larger force into Mexico in retaliation.

The two countries fought a full-blown war in the mid-19th century, when the United States took what are now its southwestern states from Mexico.

Mexico and the United States are now trade partners and President Vicente Fox told Reuters this week that the military convoy was a sign of how close the two nations now are.

Seriously, I'm sure all the Greek Freaks will be volunteering and collecting in force to help out with the disaster. One could hope that some will have drunken frat parties to raise money to rebuild Burbon Street :)

For Dominic's sake, thank GOD Katrina saved Burbon Street! :)

But seriously, people need to evacuate and let the government take care of the rescue effort, retrieve all the dead bodies, and begin the rebuilding. The water alone is infectious enough to kill and eventually the beer and booze will run out!

Did anyone hear about the Bar on Bourbon Street that is still open? Yes it is true and from the images shown on TV it was pretty full. Looks like the French Quarter had minimal damage which is great news for New Orleans.
If the hotels/ tourist area can be up and working soon, the tourist will come to spend money and that will definetly speed up the recovery of that city.
In other great news, it is being reported that 90% of the oil wells in the Gulf of Mexico did not get damaged and that is great news for the US economy and anyone who owns a car.

Jennifer, yep, the end of the road! Like I said before, the road turned just down the block from my house which is no more. Thanks for your kind words! I really do appreciate them!

Here at Fort Bragg we keep getting blessed and blessed! My Commander told me today "You are our one hurricane victim, so we all want to help", basically saying that I should give all of our soldiers the chance to help, to accept their help, which I am doing, it is, I believe, therapeutic to them, this tragedy seems to have broken the heart of a lot of Americans, they are greiving with New Orleans. So, I amtheir token victim and they have just lavished their care upon myself and my family. I think I mentioned that I was not supposed to be here till the 26th of this month, and it was taing forever to get my orders with all the red tape, well, all of a sudden the army expedited my orders and made them effective today. As a mobilized reservist, I am reserve status but full time in the army, I was too old according to some lady at accessions to be put in the active component, I was not supposed to live on base, and soldiers who live on base usually have to wait 3 or so months for a house, well, today in a matter of two hours they got us a house on base, isn't that awesome?! I love my American soldiers! They are the kindest, most giving soldiers, as well as the most lethal when the cause is just!

Isn't it something that Katrina means death? Last night the reality of what happened finally hit my kids, Kirsten realized that our cats probably died and she started just wailing for them, the lil'Alex and Karaleigh realized we lsot everything we had, except for the van in which they came to meet me and the clothes they had packed, and they began to wail! "My favorite toy!" "My polly dolls!" my this my that its all destroyed! Not being able to yet pronounce the word "destroyed" correctly. I had three little kids just wailing unconsolably last night! I tried every grief counseling technique, finally my wife turned it around by showing them some pictures of some huge boat sitting on the levee and a couple of great big boats sitting in the middle of highway 23 and making it funny, getting their focus off the loss, and onto the funniness of a big boat sitting in the middle of the road. I think that at some level they wanted to make something good somehow of all they have heard, and the boats on the road did the trick.

Anyway... oh, the Lord did something once again, too long to go into detail, but today I ended up with a dog tag that had Isaiah 41:10 on it which is incredible because as I shared a long time ago, that scripture the Lord has given me in a supernatural way numerous times whenver I went through the hardest times of my life, too long to go into detail, but definately, once again, a instance in which the supernatural met the natural and the spiritual the physical!

Anyway, I have now experienced outside of the pages of the Bible the reality of the Biblical promise "The fear of the Lord brings security to a man and his family".... Whew! Unbelievable!

Well Friday's telethon was amazing. What I did not realize is that Telemundo was simulcasting it. As a result, we got a ton of calls with Spanish speakers, and there were only 5 out of over 130 on the phones in Plano that spoke Spanish. Talk about insane.

Sue Macintosh visited this weekend. We had a grand time poolside and went to go hear Carolyn Kurtz (class of '82) play in a club on Lower Greenville. She's very good and played/sang her own stuff as well as a cover or two.

Jennifer WS is coming this month so we're having a gathering, probably at the new Texas Gaylord where her conference takes place. Let me know if you live in the DFW area want to come on the 28th.

Hector, Calmate!

Anacecilia: Yes, Katrina means death, many here have been talking about that, pretty scary, ehh? But it is not all bad, people all over the US have responded giving time, money, expertise and love to the victims of Katrina. Here in Austin there are two centers where refugees are now living. The reponse from everone has been absolutely fabulous! I just hope Jesse Jackson and all of the other idiot politicians and rappers would shut up trying to make it a race issue. There will be plenty of time to point fingers latter on.

Hector: Ya bajale a tus chillonera.

Do you all remember "Dia de Muertos? Pues son las fiestas del 1-2 de Noviembre. El "Catrin" es la calaca vestida, elegante, hasta chistosa. La "Catrina" es su mujer. As far as I understand, they name the huracanes in alphabetical order, at the beginning of the season and are asigned como van tocando. Aqui la catrina es con c, no k pero still, it's death.

Jennifer, long time, donde estabas? I also heard of that percentage, heard 80% in New Orleans . But out of the remaining 10%-20% if you count the 35,000 of the dome, plus people in hospitals etc. you still have a, what do you like, 5%? 10%? of the population missing.

Alex - I read your earlier post about your wife and kids leaving Venice before the storm. The other night, I finally got the map out to see where Venice is ... you weren't exagerating about Venice being the last town on the road!!!! Thank goodness that your wife and kids got our when they did. I saw a report on FOX today that showed a black hawk helicopter that took a reporter down there. They think they are the first to be down there since the hurricane. It was reported that probably 90% of the residents DID evacuate. They were definitely the smart ones.

My thoughts are with you and your family as well as your friends and neighbors. I along with all of America can't imagine what it is really like down there! I'm sure it will be months or even years until complete recovery takes place.

Please keep us posted on your new adventures with the Army

Cindy, my heart goes out to them too! I hear that what we see on tv is not close to the reality on the ground... if my wife had just hesitated just a little bit i would be mourning the loss of all my family! Instead, just escaping literally ground zero of what you are watching, I am being blessed and blessed! My fellow army students at the Chaplain Officer Basic Course took up an offering when tey heard we lost everything, and they handed me $2,747 as I graduated this last friday from the course. Then that night, my wife was writing a list of things we need to get immeditately, and when she saw my uniforms, she said "we need an iron", no sooner had she wrote down the word "iron" on the list of things to get, LT. Tolliver knocked on the door with a brand new iron in his hand saying he had bought that iron while at CHOBC, he didn't need it, and do you want it? My wife and I just laughed! Literally, she wrote the word "iron", a knocking on the door, and there was a brand new iron in Toliver's hand for us! When we got to Fort Bragg, my new commanding officer, LT Col Butcher, had us put up on post guest housing, when we got to our room, he brought a basket of food for us with bananas, strawberries, grapes and apples... exactly the exact fruit my children love! I mean exactly! Bananas, straberries, purple grapes and apples! I was just amazed! I told Sandra "Did you tell them those were the fruits our kids like?' Of course she didn't, we had just met my CO. And then, I was not supposed to be here in Fort Bragg till sept.26, and my orders were up in the air, I was going to be in no man's land till them. Well, the Army was kind enough to expedite my order because of what happened to us and my orders are effective now, which means I can now begin to get a house and everything else... I am teling you! Our soldiers have been beautiful lavishing their care upon us, and little details like the iron and the favorite fruit allow me to see the hand of the Lord behind it!

I understand and approve of people breaking in to get food and water and things like that in New Orleans, but Wal Mart opened its doors for people to get that, and what did they take? Computers, tv's, guns etc. My wife had just bought a dress at the mall, Oakwood Mall, on the West Bank just off the GNO bridge, they looted it, and then burned it down, they have been raping, murdering, shooting at the helicopters that were trying to rescue them, gangs were taking vehicles that came to rescue them... and then they complain that help is to slow to arrive! Well, maybe if they didn't shoot at their rescuers they would be rescued faster, son't you all think? I am not surprised, I used to go around the 9th ward selling insurance and every time I did so I was taking my life in my hands, or rather, putting it in the Lord's hands, not all people, but a very high percentage of the people in that area are quite dangerous, and I have met poor people that are not like that. The 9th ward is an area you do not want to accidentally turn into, flood or no flood.

Anyway, I feel like Lot, and I am extremely grateful my children are safe with me in Fort Bragg rather than among the floating corpses in New Orleans.

Elena. Way to go.
Today we had a doctor's appointment for our six year old son. We noticed a lump on his neck this summer. Our family doctor assured us it was nothing, but she sent us to a specialist just in case. It turned out to be just a cyst. It is sunny once again in Canada.

Tonight (7-11pm) is the Red Cross/NBC Hurricane Katrina telethon to raise funds. Capital One has donated $1 million plus all of our telecenters. So if you call in to make a donation you may get me on the phone as I will be on the phones and serving as a team leader for a group of folks. I'm really looking forward to it. Can't think of a better way to kick off the weekend.

Cindy, very true about those who are too poor to have transportation or were too old or disabled to leave on their own power.

Dominic I agree, the fact that the most advanced, civilized and technologically advanced country in the world can't bring that to bear to help these people faster. We'll see how long it takes the Army Corps of Engineers to fix the levies. Anacecilia makes a good point about biting the hand that tries to feed you. Who'd want to get shot at and lose their life trying to save someone!

I agree that the looting is normal as people are hungry, pero de eso a tomar ventaja, no se vale. Hoy por la mañana escuche una conversacion telefonica de un dr. mexicano que fue a hacer su guardia junto con su esposa y sus dos hijos a un hospital. He narrated how they have been loosing their patients, the smell, the heat, their in the dark. They don't have food and that last night, as helicopters were approaching, snipers took shots at them. Eso no lo entiendo! Literalmente se me salieron las lagrimas, junto con la conductora de t.v.
Creo que se durmieron en todos los aspectos porque I really didn't expect such a slow response from the gov't. (army, nat'l guard o quien sea). It's real chaos, like the movie "the day after".
Lo que esta tambien grueso es que this last week, the whole world has been under a lot of water, hasta Alemania y Suecia se inundaron, para no solo contar Hidalgo, Puebla y nuestro querido D.F.

Dwight, I'd be more than happy to help out your friends. I'll email you my info.

On a nicer news, it's back to school night at good ol'ASF!

Cindy: The looting is normal specially due to the circumstances. The inner city is usually where the poorest people live and they are the ones that need the most help. What is astonishing is that the city of New Orleans can't get elemental items such as water and food to the people stranded on hospitals and highways. The did have over 40 years to get a contigency plan together. It seems to me everyone knew this was going to happen sooner or latter but I guess government in the Big Easy just took it easy.
I just hope California has some sort of a plan for the Big One. It's the same scenario, everyone knows it's going to happen.

Dwight: My husband said the same thing about people being stupid. However, the majority of the people whom stayed where very poor and did not own cars. Other people whom stayed where people whom where home bound because they where ill or disabled. There are also a lot of older people (like my friends mom) whom stayed to protect her home (in the Garden district) from the rampant looting which happens after disasters like this. She is close to 90 and not very reasonable. I know that Touro hospital a few blocks away was being looted and medical workers where frantically calling for police help.

Unfortunately, the levies and the flood control has needed an upgrade for many years, funding has recently been cut. Many of the natural bayous (which help prevent flooding) where channalized to allow barges to enter the Mississippi. Originally New Orleans was above ground, but the channelizing of the river as prevented the natural re-silting of the area. Certainly the amount of people that stayed in the city was underestimated.

Alex, I went to the Med Center at LSU which is across I-10 from the Superdome. I lived in Fat City because it cheap. Besides Mexico, New Orleans is always what I have considered home. I was amazed at the destruction of Slidell. Of course the main problem now is not the Hurricane, but the flooding because of the levies. Not only are corpses decaying in the street and the water, but human waste and garbage are part of that water as well that people are wading through. My heart goes out to people stuck in there homes. Most do not have a means to get outside communication. They are predicting that the levies (hence the flooding) will not be under control for weeks, and electricity will not be established for months. People do need to get out. I fear the National Guard, or other armed forces will have to go door to door (I have seen some rescues be done by locals in boats). It is heart wrenching and it is hard to watch the disaster as it unfolds and feel so helpless.

Hey everyone, a coworker friend of mine will be in Mexico City this weekend and next week. Is there anyone out there who would like to be a good host or hostess and maybe be available to show her and her friend some good ole' Mexican hospitality? She's staying at a hotel downtown near the Cathedral with a girl friend and I was thinking if anyone was willing they could give me their phone number as a contact. That way if they decide to get some advice for cool restaurants or things to do they'd have a contact in Mexico City. You can email me at dwerren@cdc.gov if you're interested. Thanks.

Alex, yes, thank God or whatever series of events that led to you and you're family dodging Katrina. Anyone who is stupid enough to think they can ride out a category 4 or 5 hurricane will most certainly need a supernatural intervention to survive! And, regardless of what anyone believes in, I would say a huge thanks goes to the modern weather science forecast technology, Coast Guard, police, fire, and other service sectors for the number of lives that were saved. As far as the shootin' lootin' slime out there, they are the ones that should have been swept away by Katrina!

Thank you all my friends! I just keep picturing my wife loading up my kids in the van, my liitle bit, Carissa, holding her little stuffed kitten, and them being all tucked in safely traveling to meet me, no worries, no traffic, in safety, and then the hurricane just crushing the area! The hurricane actually followed the path my wife took to come meet me, Biloxi Gulf Shores etc.! It was literaly chasing my little family!... But God prevented it from catching up with them! I just have to worship the Lord!

You are right, John M., I guess this is one more confirmation that it was the Lord's call that I followed getting back in the military, at best we would have been stuck with the evacuees, no house, no job nowhere to go, at worst, we would all be dead buried under the Gulf in Venice, although you know what I believe about that.

I think we are just going to stay in Fort Bragg when we go there next week. We had planned on going there, finding a house and going back to Venice for our stuff, but now we have no stuff to go back for, I gues we will stay away for awhile, as you suggest Dominic. I haven't been able to contact my good friends from New Orleans, I pray they are ok!

Cindy, so you lived around Fat City or you went to school there or both? I know what you are talking about, I believe that attitude killed a lot of people, I know some people in Venice didn't leave, but, as you all read, there were no signs of life in that area.

Thanks John!... Man's inhumanity to man is called sin, and they need to repent from it and ask for forgiveness.

Anyway, thanks to all, Homero, Anaceci y todos, those of you who believe in prayer, please pray for the people of New Orleans and the little fishing village of Venice, and please do pray for my little family that the Lord would continue to protect us and guide us, I guess we are homeless now, but, like Lot, we came out, all my precious babies came out with their lives, safe, cozy and sound! And for that I am grateful!

Alex L., glad to hear that your family is doing well, no matter what you attribute it to.

I'm totally blown away at how the Superdome was able to hold so many and then NOT! I'm glad I had the opportunity to visit the town in its heyday. Don't know if it will ever be the same. Then again, we have a way of recovering rather quickly. What gets to me is all of the looting going on. I just don't get man's inhumanity to fellow man.

Maroney: Barrett is right! The Cowboys will make the post season this year. About Notre Dame, I am not so sure about that. My friends are planning a freak/flash road trip next week leaving up to Columbus Ohio for the Longhorns -vs- Ohio State game and I might just go. I would love to take Angus but my wife is dead set against it. She still thinks her little boy will not play football and I just laugh.
Looks like the New Orleans Saints will play this year in San Antonio (just about 1 hour from my house) so I might be able to take Angus for a couple of pro games this year.
Please email me your adress, is Barretts B-day anytime soon?

Alex Loya. Good to hear that you and your family are safe. Your decision to re-enlist has paid surprising dividends. Good luck.
Dominic. Barrett says that the Dallas Cowboys are going to have a good year. You can take that one to the bank. He is usually right. He is also wondering about his jersey. We went to Ann Arbor this week because Nina has a fellowship there and we went to Michigan Stadium for fan appreciation day. He met an offensive lineman the size of a sub-division. Barrett did not have the heart to tell him that Notre Dame is going to beat Michigan on Sept. 10th.

AnaCeci: congrats on your job!! Are you working full time?

Alison: Great to hear from you!! My heart sunk when you said it has been 30 years since you've been to Mexico. I realized that I have aged 30 years since I have seen you! What have you been doing since you left?

Loya: Can't argue with you on this one, you and your family are blessed. I stayed up to 3am watching on TV and I was stunned. You are probably better off staying away from there for a few weeks/months/years for your family's emotional stability. If you go back there will be many dead friends + destroyed families. You probably don't want to put your family through that.

Hello my friends!... I don't know if you have been keeping up with the news and what happened in New Orleans, but I just have to share with you the absolute unmerited favor the Lord showed my family and I!

For almost 3 months I have been away from my family training with the U.S. Army at Fort Jackson, NC. For those 3 months my wife and I had been planning for her to come to Fort Jackson for the last week of my training because this last week (I graduate friday) a few days of classes were scheduled for army wives for them to get to know what life in the Army is all about. Last friday my wife left our little home town of Venice, Louisiana, where I had been the pastor of the Venice Community Baptist Church for the last almost two years. She left at 6 AM with my children to meet me Saturday evening at Fort Jackson. She drove from Venice to Fort Jackson, spending friday night somewhere past Atlanta. At any rate, she left at 6 am friday. When she left at 6 am, Katrina was just a tropical storm at the Florida Keys, by friday afternoon she was a category 5 hurricane heading to Louisiana!

Hurricane Katrina, we heard in the news, touched land with 165 miles per hour winds just south of Buras Louisiana... just south of Buras, Louisiana is Venice, Louisiana, my church, my house, my neighbors!

If you have been following the news, 80% of New Orleans is under 20 feet of water, the levee broke, the Mississippi and Lake Pontchartrain breeched the barriers and as of right now the mayor of New Orleans, the governor of Louisiana and the other authorities have told whoever is on the outer edges of New Orleans to leave now because although the hurricane passed, the water is rising... rescue workers have had to ignore the bodies of dead people floating in the streets of New Orleans to go rescue the living, people are stranded on their roofs and their attics, there is no water, no electricity, no food, people will start starving to death soon, a million people are now homeless, the devastation is incredible!... in New Orleans.

One and a half hours south of New Orleans is Venice... or was Venice... the more I think of what happened, the more I worship the Lord! My wife and children left friday morning just before news arrived that a hurricane was going to hit the area, they drove out with no traffic before a million people began to evacuate and got to me with no problems, no traffic, safe and sound! Because we are moving to Fort Bragg,in South Carolina, my wife had already packed about six bins with our most valuable stuff, when we heard about the hurricane, she called one of our neighbors who went into our house and got the bins and evacuated with them, so our baby pictures, my grandfather's picture on horseback in El Paso that I showed you, his sister's picture married to the sheriff of San Elizario, Texas, all our important stuff was saved... and my family left just in the nick of time not knowing what was coming! I feel like Lot in the Bible who as soon as he and his family left Sodom, fire and brimstone rained from heaven, but Lot and his family were spared! The sheriff of Plaquemines Parish, where I live, said that the way to describe what the hurricane did in my area is simply to say that the Gulf of Mexico just moved 40 miles inland, some are saying the map of Louisiana will have to be re-drawn.

Here is a link where you can read the first report I found of what happened where my wife and children just left right before this happened, as you read this report, keep in mind that the towns are in order in relation to the Gulf of Mexico, Venice is the last town, and, as I have mentioned, my house was just a block or so from the end of the road in Louisiana! Anyway, as you read what happened, keep in mind how my family, in peace and without knowing, before everybody else, literally, had left to meet me just before this happened!... And let me just worship God for the grace and favor He has showed me! And that's ok, you can think and call me weird all you want, I shall yet praise Him even more and praise Him for this unbelievable, this incredible, this Biblical deliverance He wrought for my little family!

Alex, I saw the photos of DF. I don't even recognize the place anymore. The size is just simply unbelievable. Kind of shocking, actually.

But I must say that the architecture of the homes (including high rises) is spectacular. Very imaginative stuff going on. Although I would never live in a home that is supported by beams in what used to be a barranca. Un temblor y se acabo . . .

Hoy por la mañana vi una entrevista de Trujillo a Emilio Zebadua. WOW! (el hermano de Ramon, I think class of 79 o por ahi) Es diputado del PRD. Como dijo el entrevistador, es raro encontrar un politico con su perfil. Tiene maestrias, doctorados en Harvard etc. Sigue guapo y listo.

Creo que Georgina viene pronto. Geor que tal una mini reunion. Cuando llegas?

Hola Chatos,

So I see that several of you are suggesting Oaxaca for a reunion. It is beautiful there. In fact a really good friend of mine just came for a visit and she is from there. She brought tlayudas and I made chilaques not not chilaquiles but very similar. Actually they are delcious although not quite the banquet that John Bauer had. Yum

Okay Alex Loya yes I do need to pay my dues but I can't get them to send me anything so I know how much etc.

Ana Ceci, I think that I actually like the 3rd graders more right now the 7th ones believe it or not are not bad. The worst ones by far have been the Kindergarteners and I was a K teacher for several years. Ha. It really has not been bad. What's really nice about this is that I only have them for 40 minutes a class. So if they were driving me nuts I don't have to deal with them for too long. I hope that you can find something soon. Hey what about working in the Alumni office. Hee Hee. Sorry I just couldn't help myself. That's a sore subject I know. Start calling all our old classmates and see if someone needs your help.

Alex M thanks for the email add. So what's the big surprise that Ramon has?

John, glad you enjoyed your bbq, aqui todos saboreandolo!
Thanks for the job tips. I might have an interview soon. People who work 40 hours a day can't understand why I would want only 20. I guess I used to be that way too.

Tell me, who's worst, the kindergarten or seventh grade. Ahi si yo paso!

Alex, we did have a good time verdad? specially with Craig being in "denial". Ahora que mencionaste a Mathew Upchurch. Nadie sabe nada de el? He's been the big question mark since sixth grade.

Elena, we had a blast. We were eating from around 3:00PM until 7:30PM (okay, dessert included). We still have lamb (leg), chorizo, and some beef left (sirloin). Our colons will be working overtime this week <g>. Not many of the attendees had ever before tried chimichurri on their beef before and that was also a great hit. A day after, and I'm already looking forward to lunch time to sample everything again <G>.

Alison, it's good you found this spot. Most of us lost touch with each other too, and reconnected not long ago through our 20 year reunion.

Ramon, I can help you with the Reunion ad design if you don't have anyone else, pero no esperes nada espectacular Georgina, unless you can help me come up with something. Synapse activity going flat lately.

Mandame la info y con quien debo contactarme del hotel para que nos mande unas fotos y el logo. Ramon y Jodi: alejandromcgrath at yahoo.com.

You guys were asking about Dudley. Some of us got together in June at Anacecilia's & John's: Ramon, Hector Hernandez, and the special appearance of Jodi who it turns out is half Oaxaqueña, if you can believe it. Well, Dudley showed up with his wife and a basket. They were being very careful with it, I think it had a baby inside.

He started talking about him being a "man of peace" or something, so we started the long list of fights he got into, Ramon Zebadua, Bernat, Richie Plummer, the list just went on and on. Mathew Upchruch maybe? Even Jodi mentioned something about him setting her lab coat on fire with a bunsen burner.

Anyway, Ramon has been quietly working at getting this reunion organized. He gave us some general information but is keeping to himself this surprise he keeps mentioning... ya dinos no?

Anaceci, suerte con tu busqueda laboral. Ahi te aviso si se de algo.

Hey gang. It's been awhile but well I got back from Mexico and was inudated with guests and I got a job. Ana Ceci I am sorry that you haven't found anything part time. I feel very blessed. I found a parttime position at a private school as a Spanish teacher. I teach 10 classes of Kinder, 1,2,3, and 7th grade. It's a challenge but also fun and best of all I can take my son to school and be there to pick him up and I'm off the same days he is.

Alex McGrath what's your email add.?

Ana Ceci como te sientes?

So what's the latest on the reunion plans? I still can not get the Alumni office to send me the magazine. They stopped 1 year ago and I can't get them to start up again.

Take care
Jodi

Alex, congrats on bringing that time down. Regarding the cebollitas, look for some fresh scallions from any of the farmers around Fort Jackson. You'll have to look for a local market versus the regular super market. The scallions at this time of the year should be large enough to imitate the cebollitas. If you grill them right, you'll love the taste.

Cheers,

16 minutes and 54 seconds! Hooah! (That's the time in which I ran the two mile PFT on Friday, for those who are wondering)I was absolutely surprised I cut down about a minute and 11 seconds from my run in only two weeks or so, but I guess it has to do with technique, I purposefully maintained long strides the whole time instead of short choppy ones, and controlled my breathing making sure I breathed in deep instead of short little breaths (at the advice of a gung ho chaplain, Chaplain Gauthier, who runs class A and was recently attached to the Chaplain school coming from the SF, Special Forces, advice he gave me running next to me slowing down for me, the Lord bless him)... and I cut down from 18 0 5 to 16 54! Like I said hooah! (not that anybody cares, but I'm just sharing with you all a ittle of my life as I go along)

Alison I will let you know.

Anaceci, vives en el DF? Recuerdo que Jose Farca le dio empleo a Pepino, tal vez te pueda dar part time a ti?

John B., not fair, man! Your mention of cebollitas caused me to salivate like Pavlov's dogs, but I don't think there are any anywhere near Fort Jackson!

Ramon: No, I haven't tried grilling nopales but will have to try that on another occasion. This is more of an Argentine asado, but on my next one (sometime in the fall) it'll be more of a Mexican flare and the nopales will be on the list. However, the cebollitas are on the list for this go-around as I get quite a few on a weekly basis from my garden share (our familiy has bought a share of an organic farm in the area and we get a weekly assortment of fresh vegetables which include cebollitas <g>).

Anacecilia, same goes for the chiles. We're not getting enough for the asado this weekend, but we'll be getting more in about two weeks. We roast them on the grill and then place them in plastic bags to allow them to sweat. That makes the skins come off very easily afterwards. I have also stuffed them and grilled them and they're wonderful that way (I use queso asadero when I do as I have a harder time finding fresh manchego).

Regarding entering into the "mundo laboral" have you tried any of the local hotels or restaurants? Not sure if part-time positions are available at the concierge or front desks, but it might be available. Same goes for travel agencies. Just some thoughts there.

Cheers...

Hi Anacecilia and Alex. It's been a long time. It is good to be home again.

80 camiones! When I was there in 1976 there were 38 buses and to this day that seems impressive! Algunos de mis recuerdos de ese tiempo son tan claros.

Alex I look forward to reading your book when it comes out.

Last winter my husband Bill and I drove down to Mazatlan - it was the first time I'd been in Mexico for 29 years and I thought I'd forgotten most of my Spanish. But it is like riding a bike. I got talking to people down there and within a couple of days it all came back and I was (almost)fluent again! I wish I could practice it more often.

Eddie: Thanks for the info. I did find Beth Argus in LA and we're emailing now. We're going to meet up there for a visit this winter.

Alison, I remember you too!

Well, it was first day of school at the ASF! Do you all remember what it was like? I do, from grammar school, "me toco con Heidi y Lori?" From middle school, "no quiero ir!" I guess there was always a sense of excitement and eagerness to the first day of school. Julia entro a K-II. We called it kinder. Le toco con la hija de Fede Gorbea y con una chiquita Keeler. Supongo que es la hija de Lisa. Bus service is mandatory. Hay como 80 camiones! Muchas cosas siguen igual, muchas diferentes. It was fun going to Julia's first day. Dicen que recordar es vivir. Lo que si es que la escuela esta padrisima.

Ya me antojaron el BBQ. En casa de Heidi probe pimientos verdes, (chile poblano) partido a la mitad con queso manchego y al grill. Worth trying!

Alison Anderson! I remember you too! Has it been 30 years?! Wow! Welcome home!

Well, 2 more weeks or so and I will be finished with my training here at Fort Jackson! One week and two days and I will see my babies again! It's been almost 3 months since I saw them! My wife and kids are coming for the last week of my training for my wife to attend a week of classes for military wives, I am now wearing the black beret and my unit sent me the SWIC Airborne patches for my BDU's and my class A's (SWIC= Special Warfare Instruction Center, BDU= Battle Dress Unifor Class A= Dress Green Uniform)Little by littel I've been getting in better shape again, but I still got a ways to go. To go to Airborne school I need to qualify in the PT Test in the 18-21 year old range, which means I got to run two miles in about 14 minutes. When I got here I ran the two miles in 19 minutes and either 14 or 40 seconds and almost died, last time we tested I ran the two miles in 18 minutes and 5 seconds, lets see how I do this Friday in the final PT test. But, as you can see, I've got a long way to go to qualify for Airborne school. Plus, not only do I have to cut my running time to about 14 or 13 something minutes, but then I have to be able to do a 3, 4, and a 5 mile company run in bdu's and combat boots... maybe some of you marathon runners think that's nothin', but there is no way I can do that now... but, Lord willing, I will by next January. Anyway, I'm moving to Fort Bragg next month.

Dwight, I haven't forgotten the book. I finished writing the third and final edition, it ended up being 424 pages long. I got a new Library of Congress number and I am now talking ot the printer about adding a subtitle to the cover. I was going to change the title to what is now the subtitle to appeal to a broader audience, but then I figured some of the content wouldn't apply, so I just added the subtitle or I'm going to add it to the front cover, my book is now entitled "The Continuous Presence of Italians and Spaniards in Texas as Early as 1520 (Including: The American Revolution and the Legitimacy of Texas as an American State)" I guess its kind of long, but history type of people don't mind, the parenthesis part will go under the cover picturewhere my name is. Anyway, it is almost ready, I will let you know when it is. By the way, let me show off a little, it may not be a best seller, but because of it I was asked for my opinion to be submitted with a small and select group of real and expert (not flegling like me) historians to be submitted to the Smithsonian Institution regarding the role of Spain, Texas and Louisiana in the American Revolution... all I can say is... hooah!

John:
Have you tried grilling Nopales, get rid of the thorns, clean and place on Grill for added flavor add a thin slice of Panela or Tofu on top, grilled as well. Also you might try to get cambray onions much like the ones at Taco places in Mexico. Clean and cut off a slice of the top, add oil and salt and place on Grill. Please do not forget to add lime to both.

John, Dominic's kayak only can be paddled on a lake of beer. Instead of a normal kayak paddle there is a beer bong attached to the keel which provides propulsion and allows him to keep afloat. Uncle Jim, Jack, Don, and Jose all agree that Dominic is their favorite nephew :)

If any of you are interested, I started a quick topic called the AHS Online Book Club. It was initially to talk about Harry Potter away from those who didn't want to see spoilers or who were not interested, but I figured we'd die a quick death if our discussions were limited to theories on who RAB is...

Dwight. I have not been to Lake Superior but we will eventually make it there. Sounds awesome.
Saturday September 10th is the date for The Paddle for the Battle against cancer. It is turning out to be larger than expected. We expect to raise thousands of dollars. However, we have shortened the route. Rather than a 30 hour paddle it will be @13 hours. Much easier. We will be on television and the whole nine yards.
Dominic. We have a kayac with your name on it. Come on dude. At the end of the paddle there is going to be a massive party at the Light House Cove Marina. Unlce Jim and Don will be in attendance. We can arrange for a cigarrete boat to take you if you rather.

Hi all-
It's good to see so many of you keeping in touch after all these years. I am from the class of 81, but we left Mexico in 1976, after 7th grade.
I'm excited to be attending the May 06 reunion in Acapulco and really hope to see all or most of you there. I remember lots of you on this forum - Scott Odabashian, Heith Root (remember 5th grade spelling in the hallway?), Cindy Petrinovic, Alex Loya, etc.
Does anyone have email addresses or know the whereabouts of Beth Argus, Marisa Garcia, Wendy Schubert, Pilar Colon, Eddie Spencer or Ray Zimmerman? I unfortunately didn't keep in touch with anyone over the years.

Dwight: that backpacking trip sounded like you visited heaven. I have not made it out this summer. Juggling too many gigs. May get a brief (one or two nighter) chance the second weekend in September (the weekend after labor day) to make it out beyond Pike's Peak wilderness, but that's gonna be it for me this season (still holding my breath for November in Hawaii). The drafts up on the 97th floor must have added a nice accent to a wonderful trip.

Well, I'm almost all set for my yearly "asado" at my place this coming weekend but am finding it a bit hard to find lamb and rabbit this year. From what I hear, Americans have been shying away more and more from both those foods (at least here in Colorado). Have most of you found the same? Do you even eat lamb outside of any holiday? I get laughed at when I ask for goat so I'm staying away from that this year. New on the menu this year...veggie brats and BBQ'd Tofu. I invited a vegetarian this year and I'm having internal debates about what to serve her. We have plenty of salads, but I wanted to grill something for her. I ended up with these two (besides the regular grilled veggies I'll be serving everyone) and I got a small grill just for her items (not that I need to keep a pseudo kosher grill but I thought it would be nice to ensure that she doesn't get a feeling of cross contamination <g>). Of course, everything will be washed down with homemade sangria or straight Malbec <g>.

John, someone's gotta be eating Crow :) I heard Lance and Sheryl took some time off to vacation in southern France after le Tour. Last week I was backpacking in Isle Royale National Park with some buds. It's an island about 30 miles off the coast of Canada in Lake Superior. We backpacked just under 40 miles for the week, caught pike on some of the inland lakes, and had a killer time away from society. Stopped in Chicago on the way back and drank beers on the 97th floor of the John Hancock building :)

Had a very nice mini reunion last night with Pepe Garcia(botellas) and Rodolfo Rodriguez (Karate Kid), first we met at bread & Co, great place for Breakfast would give its Bread about 5 out of 5 Baguettes. We noticed a lot of movement of Models(male & female) at the Bar next door, Petra so we headed that way and the girls from Boletazo(Canal 2 Saturdays at 9 p.m.) & Fear Factor, were there, great taco de ojo.
The Petra is a very cool lounge Bar, over 30´s crowd, but the music is too Tamborazo, people are snobs and drinks are expensive. I will give it a 3 1/2 Pomos out of 5.
They are both confirmed for the reunion.
AnaCeci: yes all inclusive is great even if you do not drink and also there would be no additional bills or payments.
We still need to get the word out to our classmates and other guests, so any of you design people could help me with a design with the Reunion information, in the usual 1/2 page, in order to place the notice in the Alumni Magazine would be appreciated! 288 days and counting.

John Maroney: Here is the mini reunion report. Los que no fueron es porque no quisieron.
Thursday fue una buena pedita con Ramon Ricoy ,Salvador Serrano and Andres Dekivich. Ramon hooked us up in this trendy very cool bar in La Condesa, something wiht a New Orleans name and atmosphere were we had a few good chupes, some great food and got from Ramon all the info on the 2006 Reunion. Va a estar super so please get signed up now everyone! Ramon has taken the first step, now itsd time for the rest of us to step up!

On friday we met at the Ruta 61 Blues Bar also there in la Condesa were Raza Zaidi, Salvador Serrano, Andres Decovich, Jaime Pons, Rodrigo NIP his last name, and the surprise of the night, Pancho Rios indulged in some tequilaS.O.S. and a few beers. The band was surprisingly good. We were disapointed when Nacho Vizcarra called with a lame excuse he had taken his mom to Cuernavaca and that it was raining too much. We were also very dispointed in that we only drank 3 bottles of Tequila, averaging less than 1 bottle per hour. We killed off the buzz with some tacos from Selene (behind the Camino Real) and decided we really needed to get into drinking shape for the Acapulco reunion.

Alex, you are and officer, gentleman, and a man of cloth. Seriously though, I sure wouldn't mind paying for the book since it should be something you can make some money on too.

And while you're jumping out of planes into the sand just remember that besides your mission in life to support the spiritual needs of our troops, God's plan includes keeping your head up, alert, and looking around for pendejos who don't care much about your biological unit. Tocayo, yes, I still put on that lotion, its called sun screen, it would be suicidal not to put it on, especially on our newly shaved heads that had not seen the light of day! Ouch! And your guess is right, the Army is kind of tight about being on time. The day after you posted that message I was late to formation, which means I actually got there 3 minutes before formation instead of 5, I, and other who were also "late", were pulled out of the formation, our names were taken and that afternoon we paid for our mistake in the form of painful, though actually beneficial, leg lifts.

Dwight, I will let you know, it should be in a couple of weeks. By the way, the man in charge of the La Joya Center for History and Culture, a part of the Hidalgo County, Texas, school board, read my book and said it should be in every school library, apparently they approved it for supplemental reading in curriculum... that is significant! But I also got them waiting for the final and better edition. I am fine tuning the book, like I said, it is now 389 pages long. When I actually get the books, give me your mailing address and I will send you one and give it to you as a gift, you don't have to buy one from me brothah!

And guess what?! I got orders to be attached to the Special Forces Operations Command out of Fort Bragg, N.C., and the slot is Airborne! Hooah!... which means I better get in shape for real other wise they are going to carry me out on a stretcher! I believe God is leading me, to make a long story short, the commanding chaplain ad called me wanting to meet me in person to see if I was the man for the job. A day or so after he called me, without meeting me, his deputy of personnel something called me and made the statement, didn't ask, didn't wonder or guess, he made the statement "You are the man God has anointed and called for this purpose and to this position at this time", and next thing you know, they send me official orders to be attached to the Special Forces Command! I was like, huh? I guess they must have been praying because I have yet to meet the commanding chaplain. I am excited about it! I look forward to jumping out of airplanes with my soldiers! My wife and I are now planning on moving to Fort Bragg when I graduate from the Chaplain Officer Basic Course in September... after 3 and a half years of waiting things are happening so fast that our heads are spinning! Anyway, I just pray the Lord will grant me life until my children are grown, and I trust that God's biddings are His enablings.

If anyone has an email for an alum in the Dallas/Ft Worth area, please post it or send it to me so I can be sure to invite them. She's here till the 4th.

Neighborhood update: All it takes is to serve on the Homeowners Board and you realize how retarded things can get. One guy has been unemployed for the last 1.5 years (telecom executive) and thus his yard is immaculate. Someone had the management company send him a note about his "weeds". Well he has native Tx wildflowers on the back fence of his yard (beautiful) But someone does not like them so now we have a fight going on about that.

Homer, didn't you know that Vegans support the killing billions and billons of animals every time they fill their mouths with vegetables? Just think of the poor insects and other cute and fuzzy arthropods that are nuked by their insidious pesticides! And, I'm sure you've heard lately of how all the homo-bi-trans-sexuals are feeling with all this talk of constitutional bans, etc. Just think of how the cross-species and botanical sexuals feel about the vegans. All those poor fruits and vegetables that never get a chance for a loving, caring and sexual primate relationship!

Elena, ;)

Alex, will do. Just let me know when it's available.

Dominic, I was fishing in Canada last week away from my loud car stereo but I will run out and buy the latest JP CD Angel of Retribution and readjust my tympanic membranes. This morning my "attack beast" (aka my 5-pound Papillon) was barking like a madman. Turns out a coyote was lounging just one foot on the other side of the fence. When I walked up, he just turned and "smiled" at me so I could see his teeth. Boy those are mangy looking animals. The Bobcats are WAY cuter. BTW, we think a neighbor hired a trapper. Hello my friends! Just a quick hello from Fort Jackson, North Carolina! I have now a shaved head, combat boots and combat kevlar (helmet) once again! Hooah! Last night we low crawled in full battle gear through hundreds of yards of sand, explosions going off, live machine gun fire over our heads, sand in our mouths... and the other day I excerted myself so much doing the low crawl high crawl 3 to 5 second sprint, drop and roll under barbed wire that I threw up! It was great!...although I don't remember Marine Corps boot camp almost a quarter of a century ago being so brutal... I guess the "almost a quarter of a century ago" has something to do with it, huh? Anyway, it's great to be back! A lot older, a little fatter, a lot way in terrible shape! but in the Armed Forces of the United States, hooah!

You buncha animal loving, tree huggin, green party freaks need to come down to Springfield for this year's father day affair "Kill a kitty or puppy for daddy" sponsored by the NRA. It all starts sunday morning at Moe's with a brewsky gulpathon and then we go down main street USA killing anything from cats, dogs, deers, insects and even a few mothers in law. Then we finish off the night by burning down the vegan supermarket "Vegans are Us". As this is a charity event, all dead animals are donated to the Ronald McDonald house. Those kids do get tired of beef you know.

Elena, you must kill all the bobcats for two reasons, one they're insurgent terrorists and members of the Taliban, and two Bush has eliminated all wildlife areas in the US as they stand in the way of big business. And John, the wolf always kills the lamb :) But seriously, shy someone leaving a two year old by themselves wandering around in the neighborhood, Cindy's friend who is wildlife biologist provides good advice. Bobcats propose less of a health threat to humans than humans do to themselves. If people in your neighborhood are that concerned then they should lock their doors and avoid all contact with society :)

As far as the coyotes go, Dominic's method of pest reduction is the best. Although most coyotes are omnivores and eat mostly small animals, rodents, insects, and vegetation, some aquire the taste for livestock. In Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana they contribute to a fair portion of the livestock depredation and can be shot year round by farmers or landowners. My boss owns a farm in Indiana and kills at least one a year hanging around for a free lunch at the chicken coop. Regardless of how much education, respect or effort we put into living with wildlife, the fact remains that urban sprawl is taking away their habitat and the bottom line is animals always lose. Last year in Ohio there were over 32,000 deer hit by cars with 898 injuries and 7 fatalities. Society needs to move back to the city, buy bicycles, and take all the SUV's and dump them in the ocean to create artifical reefs!

Cindy: Great O.T. advice for Dominic. Hello, there! I'm in San Antonio. I'm not sure how I ended up here, since I'm supposed to be near the ocean, hanging out on the beach, surfing, etc. San Antonio is missing two things: beach and mountains. Got spoiled in Rio, which is where we moved after Mexico City. I plan to sell the practice soon and move back to Brasil, but probably not Rio--it's a little too crazy now. Aaron (my twin bro) and I finished high school in Northern Virginia (Fairfax). Talk about culture shock!!! I still haven't gotten over it and still haven't been able to figure out "gringo culture". Then we went to South Padre Island, TX, and Matamoros. I stay connected to Brazilian culture these days through Capoeira (Afro-Brazilian martial art that's disguised as a dance). Never woulda thought I'd be doing that in San Antonio twenty-some years later. So now Aaron and I have a clinic where we do acupuncture and nutrition and chiropractic, and do quite a bit of neurology (we call it functional neurology) these days as a specialty.
I got married almost five years ago, to a local San Antonio hottie.

Dominic: I can most likely find you someone in Austin. I don't know any acupuncturists there, but no problem finding you one. Also, one of the best chiros in the world is in Austin, as well as his brother, who is one of the best also.
He is one of my former teachers who taught me Applied Kinesiology and has worked on me many times over the past year or so. People come from all over the world to see him, including Lance Armstrong. He and Mike have been team docs for the University of Texas athletes for a long time. He's off of Bee Caves Road and 360. Dr. John Bandy 512-328-4041. You could also see his brother (Mike), but I don't have his number. They both integrate the Asian meridian system anyway, so if you don't go to an acupuncturist you will get the energy system addressed regardless.

Scott: It's good to know you're out there surfing when you can. I've considered getting a kayak so I can get to know the Guadalupe River a little better. How do you like NYC? Damn, I shoulda kept one of those Flare pens you used to give out to the class.

Elena - Cindy asked her favorite wildlife biologist to respond to your, or should I say your neighbor's problems with wildlife in the neighborhood. So here's my two cents worth!

First off, it is my opinion the every issue that you outlined comes down to a people problem, not a wildlife problem - they were here first and we have since invaded their territory, forcing them to adapt. In fact, my very first wildlife class in college was started with the professor saying that "to be a great wildlife biologist, you need to know how to manage people. If you don't like this attitude you best withdraw from the class!"

Second, in almost 19 years as a professional biologist, I have never heard of any human/bobcat issues. By their very nature, they are extremely shy and wary of humans, thus again, it comes down to a people problem.

As for the other creatures, they are all highly adaptive to their new human surrounds, especially trash, pet food etc. As a result of this ability to adapted and survive in artificial habitat at artificially high densities, opossums, foxes, coyotes, racoons, skunks are very susceptable to diseases (rabies, plague, fleas etc). From a health standpoint, many of these diseases can be past on to pets and sometimes humans, especially if bitten. so it is not wise to try and interact with them - leave them be.

So the questions arises about how to prevent this and how to live with wildlife. The best answer I have is through education. By teaching people how to coexist with wildlife, there might be chance for all living creatures to live peacefully together. Education begins with giving people the facts about the animals and their natural habitat, showing them that most animals, if not harrassed, provoked, and/or lured in, will not pose a problem. In general, wild animals usually do not like humas. Next, people need to understand that it is usually their own actions that have created the problems. Feeding pets outside and leaving the pet food out, leaving trash cans outside, and leaving your grill dirty, will many times draw wildlife in to a position that could be equated as a problem. Here in Colorado, this problem has gotten so bad that larger predators like mountain lions are now coming into the yards to get the raccoons, rabbits and deer. This equates to a time bomb just waiting to go off. And while humans sometimes lose, most times it is the animal who wounds up being put down, all because of some humans action.

I could go on forever, but in summary, by letting your neighbors know of the simple things they can do to help keep wildlife wild, maybe they will back off their anti-wildlife stand. Even doing things to discourage the animals from coming into their yards is a possibility (i.e. springlers on motion detectors, flood lights in the back yard, vegetation sprays etc)

Hopefully this gives you some direction. Your state wildlife agency might even have some handouts to give to your neighbors. Any way, good luck! Call me if you have any questions.

One last thing, DO NOT tell any one about the bobcat kittens. Letting that info out to the general public usually does more harm than good. Instead, watch from afar and enjoy. Not may people get the opportunity to watch nature as you are doing - a once in a life time experience!

Elena. We have an assortment of wild critters living at the farm ranging from coyotes to badgers. When I do barn check at night I never know what I might encounter. We are the only farm that does not shoot wild creatures. Somehow, through perhaps accelerated evolution, the animals have become aware of this. Thus our place is like a sanctuary. "The wolf did with the lambkin dwell in peace, his grim carnivorous nature there did cease". My advice is to become absorbed with the secret lives of all the critters with whom you come in contact. As to Bobcats, there are few documented cases of attacks on humans. Raccoons pose more of a problem than do Bobcats. We have so many raccoons here that we jokingly refer to our hay barn as a Coondiminium.

Elena: Just be carefull if you have neighbors with kids. You might want to let them know. Just about 3 weeks ago coyotes in our neighborhood went after 2 boys playing by the creek, fortunately nothing happened as the kids were with dogs. Unfortunately for the coyotes, my neighbors are hard core red necks who love guns and bourbon. I think they had a party the other weekend as we heard shots all night long. Haven't seen coyotes since.

Anyone have advice for me on the following situation: We have bobcats in our neighborhood and people are getting hysterical. The Bobcats have never hurt anyone, nor touched anyone's pet. One of the reasons we picked our neighborhood is because it is on a creek with trees (both VERY rare in Plano, TX) It is also near a nature preserve. As a result, in addition to Bobcats, we have possums, armadillos, cayotes, roadrunners, beavers, spiders, snakes, etc. I love it, but our neighbors want to call animal control and have every living being either hauled out or poisoned. Why don't these people just live in the concrete downtown if they don't want nature?! Can you tell I'm frustrated? Part of it is I fear the reason why the bobcat is more visible is that she has babies and is seeking out additional food for them. Only a couple of us know this secret and have seen the awesome 4 baby bobcats (does one call them kittens?) They have amazing striped fur and bright blue eyes.

Scott, I'm living in Amelia, Ohio which is just 25 miles east of Cincinnati. Sounds like you're getting in some great outdoor action as much as you can. Haven't kayaked but have been white water rafting down the New River in West Virginia. I hear the Upper Gauley is the one for category 4 and 5 rapids.

Hey, my Dad drove a Ford Fairmont in Mexico City and it was a piece-o-caca 4 cylinder that spewed black smoke from day one! I think my '84 Chevette could've beat that thing. Remember Mike Lucas's 5 liter black Mustang? Now that car had some cajones.

Cindy & Heith: Thanks for the advice. I will definetly follow both of your advice as this damn thing is a pain in the elbow. I live in the Austin so if you know a good acupunturist let me know.

Jody: Happy Bday girl! I hope you partied hard, but if you didn't, don't worry, I did it for you.

Andres Deko: Clear some space on your hotmail. Just got back from the Chicago Blues Festival & got some killer pics of Pinetop Perkins & Koko Taylor.

John: Of course I remeber "potencia ford" - that was my parent's Ford Fairmont. Lovely Champagne color! It did haul asssss, however. I live on the Hudson river, just north of NYC and do quite a bit of kayaking. Done trips as long a 30 miles but 100 is impressive. Good luck with that! Good cause. Take it easy.

Scott. I live in Ontario , Canada on a farm with my wife Nina and our son Barrett. I'm a teacher. I am involved with a government program to teach English to newcomers to Canada. It is interesting.
This is of interest to anyone who has been affected by cancer. Both my father and mother died of cancer so I am very affected. I came up with an event called Paddle for the Battle. In September a large group of my Spanish students and I will be canoeing and kayaking from London to Chatham to raise money for the Terry Fox Cancer Society. It is nearly 100 miles and we will do it non stop. It promises to be fun and very challenging. However, I have to start training now. We hope to raise $ 25,000 or more. Anyone with kayak / canoe experience is welcome to join us.
Scott. Thanks for the email addresses. Do you remember "potencia Ford" ?
