CodeLab Registration and Purchasing

 

What is CodeLab?

CodeLab is an online program for learning and practicing computer programming. CodeLab is available to you anywhere you have access to the world wide web. It is delivered and supported by a company called Turing’s Craft. Their home page is http://www.turingscraft.com

 

How to Start Using CodeLab

The first 10 exercises (or so) in CodeLab are free so you can start doing the CodeLab homework before paying. But first you must register to get a username and password and put yourself on your instructor’s CodeLab roster.

  1. Go to the web site: http://www.turingscraft.com
  2. Click on the text that says  register  near the upper right hand corner of the page (See the red arrows in this screen shot)
  3. Click on the top radio button next to “STUDENT: I am in a course that uses CodeLab.” (See the red arrow in this screen shot)
  4. Where it asks for the “Section Access Code," (see this screen shot) enter the appropriate Access Code:

          CS 102 students for Fall 2008 enter:     ILL-CHI-7191-0
          CS 107 students for Fall 2008 enter: ILL-CHI-7688-0

  5. Select your university (see this screen shot)
  6. Enter your email address (see this screen shot)
  7. Choose a password (see this screen shot)
  8. Enter your name and select the box indicating you agree with the conditions for use (see this screen shot). It is important that you enter your actual name during this step so that your instructor knows who you are to give you credit for the work you do in CodeLab.
  9. You will then get a verification message, and can then go to the login screen (see this screen shot)
  10. You can now login to select the course, and can do the first few exercises.
    Note, however, that this is currently only the TRIAL version, giving you access to the first few exercises only. To get full access you must purchase CodeLab (see red arrow on this screen shot, which takes you to this screen). To do this online you will need a valid credit card number.
    You can also purchase using a Paypal account. To do this please first call Turings Craft at 1-866-TURING1 (887-4641) between 10am-6pm EST, Monday through Friday.
